Shutdown Thread (2025 onwards)

Another year, another thread of woes.

But if you get shut down, you're working hard at it!

Last year's thread:

I'm looking at the US Bank Smartly card, mostly cuz the name is cool, but also I guess because it's 4% with the right hoops?

So if anyone wants to tell me what not to do to get shut down here when I abuse this thing like a rental car, I'm all ears.

Just a tangent to your post. I applied to the Smartly card but was denied due to a shutdown on a Fidelity 2% card. Apparently Elan is owned by US Bank and they levied a ban for all products in the future. Just adding my 2 cents about how MS unfriendly they are.

If you have been reading the shutdown threads for a while, then you know that US Bank does not play well with MSers and shuts them down quite rapidly according to the DPs.

It may be why there isn't much activity discussing US Bank credit cards

USB never been MS friendly. When AR came out, they quickly shut people down over abusing 3x on mobile wallet. Zero chance they would put up with MS on the Smartly.

That depends on if you've maxed out 1 order and then applied Chase pay over time to it such that you got a 0% interest $40k loan...

it's hilarious how people still hold onto the AR drama that lasted all of like a couple months. I got an AR on day one, MSed 90% of the MSR, never had an issue to this day. I know people who are still putting disgusting volume through this card at 3x. And you're probably going to say "you're the exception, be careful, live in fear". The shutdowns were the exceptions, and there hasn't been a single shutdown DP I've seen since 2018.

in fairness USB shutdown is not really a big deal. There are not many cards you are being locked out of if you get shut down

Talking about the AR card is a waste of time. It is no longer available on the market, and therefore, unless someone does something really stupid with it, USB doesn't care. They are happy to collect their $400 and give you its benefits, which can be found discussed here.

Congrats on having the card. I agree with soy that the USB card offerings are very meh

However, it doesn't negate the numerous DPs on how USB plays with MSers, unfortunately.

They also don't seem to care about spending thousands at a time at the gas station with the biz alt @ 4%. The worst thing I can imagine they do is cap gas purchases at $200 like the triple cash, or nerf it to $1k per quarter like the personal alt. Cash bonuses are the highest of any issuer, they almost always waive first year fee, and I'm not aware of any churning language. I don't ever expect to come in here with an actual shutdown story. Also the AR has basically paid every cardholder to keep the card open if you just take the 3 minutes to call them every time your AF posts.
