I received no email or other notice. I tried using the app, but my accounts were gone. I contacted customer service and was told that the accounts were closed, no appeal. I was also told that a check with the funds would be sent to me within 14 days. Still no official notice from One Account.

How long does it take to get the email notifying you of closure? How long does it take to actually get the money?

Any shutdown stories, please post a summary of the usual use patterns. Loads, unload methods, etc.

You'll get your money when you'll get it, is what it seems like from past posts.

Definitely will require complaint to CFPB if true and verified.

As soon as my next statement posts - approx Dec 1 or so - I will file a CFPB claim, that's just under a month after my silent shutdown. I may be wrong but I'm under the impression the CFPB folks will light a fire under the ONE (or Coastal) folks, I'll do everything in my power to ensure those hosers don't keep my money for 6 months!

One closed my account on 11/16. I was loading 30k per month for last 4 months at walmart. I used to get money order from cards for 10k from kroger and rest I used to pay credit cards directly. I had my Wells Fargo account linked in one app. Received my money on 11/21 into Wells Fargo. P2 account is still open.
Additionally I had kept 10k in savings account.

Received a check in the mail from One today for the balance that was in the account when it was closed last month on Oct 24th. All the specifics about my loading and account usage is in my original account shutdown post further back in this thread.

I was adding about $8,000 every two weeks or so, transferring deposits both to a ONE savings account, and to a separate linked account. I was not going crazy. Ironically, I generally immediately transferred funds to my linked account. Yesterday, I didn't. And I got shut down.

I'm interested in any DP's that can help isolate whether or not the shutdowns are SAR related. Hope you don't mind the barrage of questions, but:
  • How many times per day / per week did you load?
  • Did you ever load multiple times on same day, different WM?
  • Was the amount you load pretty regular, or did you vary it?
  • Was your loading cadence regular, or varied?

Unless a WM employee suddenly asks for ID and one complies, no SAR by WM.

But yeah, ONE/Coastal might file SARs when they eventually notice such activity. Hard to say.

Coastal is required to file SARs, as every bank is. However, when to shut an account down due to excessive SARs is a decision left up to the bank manager. My theory is that all these closures are related to frequent deposits leading to SARs, leading to shutdowns. In the case of regular banks where the churner is depositing money orders, I think the level of SAR reporting must be high. With these debit accounts though, they're designed arouond the idea of getting cash deposits at WM (and other locations) so why they would have a business model that leads to SARs and shutdowns is what's baffling to me.

Anyway, it's just a theory, so I'm looking for DPs

BTW, WM doesn't do SARs, but they do MSARs. I've been trying to figure out what the heck an MSAR is, and found that the FTC is currently going after WM and WM is fighting back. The drama is fantastic, I'm popping popcorn as I watch this one unfold.... But, I digress. It was in the FTC's writeup of WM's policies that I learned the most about what an MSAR is. Seems it's just a form they're supposed to fill out and send to corporate, if someone tries to transfer money via WU. Doesn't seem like they're even supposed to do it over debit card reloads or MO purchases, so I would hazzard a guess that if they do, then corporate just files it away in the trash. Even when it's used correctly, Corporate only compiles the info and sends it to Western Union.

TL/DR - it's the Coastal side of this equation I'm interested in.

Designed around getting Some cash deposits …. not $30,000 or $100,000 a month. That’s the problem since AML issues arise
