Taking a GC from one store and loading at another?
Some of the stores that I frequent are out of amazon gc's or a specific brand of vgc/mcgc's. Usually if I ask the manager if I could take a few unloaded amazon gc's to load at another time/store, they won't have a problem with it. But has anyone else tried this and run into problems during loading?
eg. Taking a vgc from walmart and loading it at another walmart or even safeway? (all the while making sure its a brand that both stores carry)

Furthermore, removing stock from a store without permission is shop lifting. Not worth it

I suspect that if you are taking an Amazon card from 1 Home Depot with permission and bringing it to a another Home Depot that is lacking the Amazon card, then in all likelihood you will be able to load it without difficulty. However if you are taking a Visa gift card from Lowe's and trying to load it at Staples, then there might be a problem especially if the stock numbers for these cards are tracked by store location..

I can say first hand that I've been able to load amazon gc's given from one gamestop at another, but I've never tried it for different stores (gamestop to safeway). I was hoping some others may have experience with that and maybe even with vanilla vgc's that a lot of stores carry. I can't imagine incomm codes each individual card to only be loaded at the one specific store location for that matter.

One of the managers at a FD I load my Serve cards at also gave me 100 of the $4.95 fee SS VGCs there for $20 since she said "no one ever buys them here anyhow" when I propositioned her to sell me some of them at her store. I value these pretty highly since they can be purchased/loaded at a common gas station chain in my area and I have some good "gas" multiplier cards for cash back, airline miles, and hotel points. Unfortunately the chain tends to be out of the $4.95 load fee SS VGS most of the time so I have to get them and bring them in from somewhere else, but if they are in stock I just buy them there.

I do this pretty frequently with the SS VGCs in my area and don't have any problems. One of the grocery stores in my area that I buy SS VGCs carries the $5.95 fee cards in abundance and I'll throw a couple extra in my pocket to use at the CVS stores in my area that are often out of SS VGCs or only have OneVanillas.

I have also done this MANY times over last three years. When BHN or InComm stock these cards at store they themselves do not keep records of the SKU numbers sent to each store. That’s why you can swap and purchase same brand cards between different stores…..Kroger, Safeway, Vons, Ralph’s, Albertsons, CVS.
How I know that SKU are not recorded is that when a card won’t load at purchase, the card is just tossed by the store, which has been my experience quite a few times.

Thanks thats exactly what I was looking for. I wonder what would happen if you loaded a brand of vgc that wasn't sold at the gas station normally. In my experience, ssvgc have been the easiest to unload and one of the gas stations I'm thinking of only have the 20-200 denominations. So do you think bringing a 20-500 variety and loading it there would cause any issues?

It's been my experience that it has to be a card type they sell and it has to have the same load fee. For example, the $5.95 SS VGCs I get at my grocery store and CVS don't work at my gas station location because the SS VGCs the gas station sells are the $4.95 SS VGCs. Same way in reverse. The gas station ones don't work at my grocery store or CVS. The SKUs on the SS cards must be different and the registers don't have that SKU in their system and it doesn't allow the cashiers to proceed.
BTW….I haven’t seen $4.95 fee VGC in a few years. Wonder why the fees InComm charges for SS are different at your gas station go to. I haven’t even seen a gas station that still sell the $500 variables in years.
