THIS IS A NEW THREAD FOR 2018. The previous thread is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***

Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).

Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.

You can earn gas points from both regular grocery shopping and gift card purchases (promotion only).

The grocery reward points (Go Rewards or Flexible Reward) can be transferred to either gas points (Fuel Rewards) or grocery points. The conversion rate is 100 points = $0.10/gallon or 100 points = $1 saving in grocery.

- - - - - - - - - -

Additional Information

• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).

• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.

• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.

• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.

• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.

• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.

• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.

• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.

• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behavior if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.

• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

S&S sent me an email this morning with the subject "See this week's FREE items with GO Rewards.". I logged in and saw that there is now a "Special Offers" section on the Go Rewards page. I had 2 offers there and redeemed my points for them. I got better value than I would have on Gas. This is definitely worth checking out. Hopefully they'll post new offers weekly.

This started last week. There were offers for Cookies and cupcakes and something else that I cannot recall. It was noted in the weekly flyer. I do not see anything today just 'coming soon'
Giant have had this for a while, so it seems S&S are catching up

I just hate how they say, "FREE when you redeem 100 points!". That's like saying "FREE when you give me a dollar!"
But yeah, definitely better cpp value IF you need the item.

Just got hit with a bunch of drained cards. Have logged ticket with Incomm (they must be getting killed with this), but going forward I need to know in advance if there is anything iffy with my cards.

All defective cards were the older ones with the full barcode on the back, with expiry in 29/30/31. Have not had issues with the new design where the barcode is only partially visible, expiry 32
Sorry, been offline, the card reader I got was back in 2016 for reading BB cards. Amazon webpages for it is gone. But search for usb 3-Track Magnetic Stripe Card Reader POS Credit Card Reader, should work

Redeeming Flex Rewards

I must say it always gives me great pleasure to see the surprise (and wonderment … and sometimes suspicion) on the face of a cashier when the cost of my grocery purchase goes down by $40 or $50 or $60 or more, redeeming flex reward points for groceries.

They often ask how I got so many reward points.

The best, though, recently, was when I purchased a few things and redeemed $42 in Flex rewards - cashier Ana sez, “your wife must have done a good job [accumulating all those points]” 😂😱😂😱

My wife found that to be a little sexist!

A few times, it required a manager's(not the cashier who stands at SCO) key because I redeemed too much. That was when they first dolled out the program and it was impossible for me to use all the points for gas redemption.

Bought more several other days and I got 18 points per transaction and the Customer Service rep had to manually enter the points. One of them screwed up and didn't credit me enough, I called a few days later to inquire and my issue was submitted and I got a call back later that day that the limit was $2,000 and I should not have received any points after that. I accepted what she said but was not sure if that was her interpretation of the rules or if that is actually the rule and the register is hard coded to reflect that.

I bought $1,500 VGC at two different places on Saturday and the points again posted with no issue. On Sunday, I got 18 points again and the CSR had to manually post them. So I think the woman whom I spoke to on the phone may have been correct and I suspect that the only reason I got points on the second $1,500 transaction on the first day is because I was under the limit before the purchase so it did not restrict me. but for any subsequent transactions i was over the limit and it restricted me.
Past DPs already have this answered... wish people aren't so trigger-happy to call and bring attention to loopholes to be closed. Used to be so easy to earn points with no limits, now with the 2k limit and it's almost as if people calling want to make sure that's enforced just so they can get a little more points on a one-time purchase >.>

I re-read the last two months of this thread and the posts you refer to were unclear and seemed to reference Giant MD/VA or S&S. If it was clear to me then I wouldn't have called. I did not have this issue in September and I recall reading here that S&S purchases did. I have been buying cards at Giant for over a decade and know not to bring attention to things.

Sorry, I don't know anything about "Family Sharing". I just keep multiple accounts. Helps if you keep one in the app and the other in a browser.

Did anyone else have S&S points mysteriously change expiration date? Or maybe get clawed back?

My app is showing all of my points as expiring tomorrow even though I earned some on 12/14 that shouldn't expire until the end of January. A couple days ago I redeemed what should have been everything that was earned in November. Not sure the point total is correct either. Seems like it might be a bit lower than it should be as well, but maybe I only did 2k in November at S&S and it was Giant-PA where I double-dipped. Would have to dig through my November receipts, but I definitely did 1.5k + 2k this month and nothing showing with a January expiration.

Don't really want to call and draw eyes to the double-dip and try to get them fixed so guess I'll just redeem for grocery dollars. Probably have enough gas points from Giant-PA anyway.

When you cash out the points expiring tomorrow, the rest of the points will show 1/31 date @ Bigzamboni

Thanks, that did it. Guess I still had a few hundred more left from November than I realized.
