This is the master thread for all VGC and MCGC sold at Staples.
The previous discussion can be found here.

The VGCs sold at Staples are issued by Metabank and serviced by Blackhawk Network.
The activation code for online purchase comes with the card. Cards purchased at store are activated at check-out.
To activate cards over the phone (without activation codes), call (877) 426-2551 to talk to a rep.
To activate cards over the web, www.giftcardkey.com.
The default PIN number is the last four digits of the card number but can be changed online.

As of 5/12/2014, all known portals are dead.

Earn 5x points with Chase Ink, or Simply Cash for 5% cash back
Buy Visa gift cards (Metabank) at Staples ($200 for $7.95) or the website ($300 for $8.95).

2k Limit per transaction / 10k per day for online. In-store is usually 2k but YMMV
Often times, there are promotions with no or reduced activation fees

Why are people so excited to buy them?...

What exactly are you looking for? I still think its a win because I can pay my HOA with the $500 VGC and still get 2.1% cash back after the debit fees.

Red face Still can't register Visa gift cards from Staples

It's annoying for almost a month, I can't register either Visa or Master cards online. Quite some websites require registration to make payment.

Staple limits

Went to Staples for VGC today and was waited on by a new cashier. I always ask the new ones what the limit is and he said $2000. I went to the rack and added 2 more to my stash of 8. When he got to the 9th card the terminal showed $1800 but would not ring the 10th card, saying the limit is $2000. He scanned the last one 3 more times expecting a different result. I left with my nine. Anyone else seen this?

What is the issue here??
The limit is $2000 which to me means that if you hit $2000, you are over the limit and if you bought $1999.99 you wouldn't be.
Just like in math, you presumed "greater than" $2000, but the computer used "Greater than or equal to" $2000.

i guess you will have to complain to the programmers

Neither the clerk, manager or I thought of this. I guess the hard limit is 9 cards although the ad states 8. Hope this helps other FTers.

That requires the checkout clerk to actually enforce, as far as I am aware the system does not charge if you get more.

I havent done it since they raised the limit to 8, but when it was 1 or 5 I would often go up with 9 to stay under the $2,000 limit, and see if they would stop me. It worked 50% of the time, depended on the location. Now that the limit is 8, its just not worth the game for the extra card

more important have you purchased there before and werent charged the fee on all the cards? I ask since some stores for some reason the fee on each card was always charged, so Im wondering if they finally caught on or if its was your 1st time getting them there and they charged the fees on each

Our Inks are maxed out so we are waiting till the statements close and we pay it off so we can get more, but if they caught on and fixed things then we wont be maxing the Inks out again

About 2 weeks ago, we bought 3 $500 VGC cards in the same stores, with only 1 $5.95 fee charged. I thought we found the gold mine, LOL
