The thread for 2018 is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***

Giant MD and Stop & Shop's points now stack with Shell's Fuel Rewards. See more here.
If you link a Mastercard to Fuel Rewards, you will earn an additional $0.15/gal for every $100 spent on anything at Giant/S&S with that card through the end of the year.

Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).

Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.

Feel free to update this Wiki or suggest improvements. The goal is to help all of us spend less on gas!

Additional Information

• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).

• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.

• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.

• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.

• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.

• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.

• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.

• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.

• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behaviour if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.

• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

I offload my 5+ gallon can to 1 gallon Arizona Ice Tea jugs (much thicker plastic than milk jugs), then transfer to car fuel tank. Use gas treatment bottle with bottom cut off as funnel for tank.

i'm sure you're aware, but for others reading your post: gas melts right through many kinds of plastics (try putting some gas into a solo cup). your best bet is to use an approved container.

I tried all kinds of wacky ways to "save money" but than realized I could spend $15 and I would make it back in all the time I spend cleaning up the mess from trying to pour something into something else, not to mention the lost gas.If you do this once a month than it's probably not a big deal, but if you are trying to scale up its worth getting the right equipment.

Thanks for the siphon suggestions. I bought this one for $6 and change with Prime today, using the 30% AMEXAUTO code (product has to be sold by Amazon, so not many choices) as long as you use 1 AMEX Membership Rewards point (I was allowed to pay the rest with discounted gift card).

Some of the other products discussed here look better than this simple siphon, but I figure I can't go wrong for 6 bucks. And I'm sure it will be easier than my funnel.

May be true of some plastics, but not the AZ Ice Tea jugs. As an experiment, I have stored gas in one for well in excess of a year. No leakage, no noticeable evap. Interested in anyone with similar or different experience with this specific jug, not interested in hearing guesses from someone who has not.

The best thing I have found is the SureCan 5Gal plastic gas can. It has all the features built in. Buy it from lowes using one of the $10/$15 off coupons floating around. I have 3 of them and use it effectively.

Nice looking can. But expensive.

BTW, I'm not sure if it's already been noted, but Giant/S&S is offering 10x points on BestBuy GCs this week. That's a pretty good deal, especially since Best Buy stores will let you use them to buy other gift cards. My "problem" though is that I already buy discounted Best Buy GCs through the various promos, and I already get discounted gas through Giant's promos on Visa and MC gift cards. So it doesn't really make sense for me to do that. That said, a $300 Best Buy GC bought at Giant with a Mastercard (if you're enrolled in Fuel Rewards) should net you 2 gas fill ups of $1.50 off 20 gallons, plus 45 cents off of one of those fill-ups. That's a combined $69 off gas. Plus whatever bonus you get on your supermarket-friendly Mastercard. Not a bad deal.

It is expensive, but a nice little investment if you have a few neighbors/friends/more cars for whom/which you can fill gas using Giant points. I usually go with them and fill for them for their tank capacity and rest in the Cans. In the process give them a discount.
I then fill from Can to their Cars when needed. For this i needed a no-nonsense can. You will make up the money in one free fill.

Regarding Best buy GC: There are holes in the loop to convert bestbuy GC back to money. A bit risky but worth the reward. I will leave it at that.

In CT, it's 5 X on Appleby's and IHOP. I'm pretty much loaded up on retail GC's for now so I'm hoping next week is better.

Uggh. Looks like I'm going to have to pay(!) for gas soon.

be ready to return that one. You’ll get it working a bit but it’s a big time PITA. I have that one and it’s easier to just hold the 5 gal cans. I’m gonna get a battery operated as it’s on my mind now

Indeed, it's not perfect. A couple of days ago, I tried siphoning from a half-full 5 gallon can. It didn't work so well. Today, I tried from a full can. After some vigorous shaking, it worked. Pretty well, actually. But it doesn't get the last third of a gallon or so. So I still need the funnel. It does make the job easier, though. If you have a high vehicle, it can be very heavy holding a full 5 gallon can up to the gas tank opening (less of a problem on a regular car). Using a funnel for just the dregs is easier.

That said, I suspect there's a better solution, and my suspicion is an electric siphon.

If I don't want to invest that much in a pump, does anyone have a recommendation for something that would still make transferring the gas from a gas can to a gas tank easier than using a funnel?
it sounds more like $40 with the instant coupon you can add on the product page. I’ll let you know how this pricier one works.

Is anyone else having points from the mastercard offer show up on the FR website with an incorrect expiration on the main view? It says all of my points are set to expire January 6. This is correct for my S&S points, but for MC points the earnings history is showing feb 28th.

Also, 12/29 preview is out for Giant. 8x on Nike.
