The thread for 2018 is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***

Giant MD and Stop & Shop's points now stack with Shell's Fuel Rewards. See more here.
If you link a Mastercard to Fuel Rewards, you will earn an additional $0.15/gal for every $100 spent on anything at Giant/S&S with that card through the end of the year.

Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).

Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.

Feel free to update this Wiki or suggest improvements. The goal is to help all of us spend less on gas!

Additional Information

• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).

• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.

• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.

• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.

• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.

• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.

• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.

• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.

• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behaviour if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.

• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

I can't see them changing it or doing away with it more than half way through the first day of the promo. Especially considering today is a Friday. It was fine at 2PM EST when I was there today. Nothing corporate usually gets done after noon time on a Friday unless it's an emergency which I don't feel they would view this as since this is a repeating promo run multiple times a year. I'd bet it was some kind of system error, but I'll hit S&S first thing in the morning and grab a muffin and a 500 VGC and report back.

I thought there used to be a sign up saying how much you had to buy to get in "the book." I didn't see it today. I bought $2500 (basically 3 fill-ups, which will be my gas needs for the month). The clerk entered it in the book. I can't say that I care much, but I think not being in the book is better than being in the book.

Also, when I went to a Shell station this afternoon, it seemed to deduct $2.20. The gas was $1.73. I'm guessing some sort of automatic adjustment will occur?
There were new signs by the PinPads today in my store just south of Boston that said "Customers buying gift cards may be ask to show ID". Having picked a line that had a cashier assigned to it that I have a good rapport with I asked when an ID would be needed and she said anything $500 and over they are supposed to ask for ID and get a manager to "key it in" at their register. I bought two $499 VGS but in two separate purchases (1 $499 VGC at a time) and didn't need to show ID or get a manager involved.

Working as intended at my store as of 0800 this morning. Points appeared on the receipt without problems.

I've edited the Wiki to reflect the current promotions. Should Martin's Food Markets be included as well, being an Ahold shop?

Plenty of VGCs here, points are posting without a problem at S&S (NJ), the new cashier system requires a key for first $500 VGC as well, that's new for our S&S. Not a big deal, as they key it in w/o blinking an eye. Personally, I usually get 3x$500 at a time, daily, no need to be in the log book, and it seems like enough of free gas for next 37 days, especially when they hit 4x/$1 later in the summer.

My co-workers usually get free fill ups around Day 35, when I know I'll have a bunch of points left over. Good stuff.

Cheers,

PedroNY

Yes, they follow the same schedule for gift cards.

FYI: I went to two Martin's One on Friday and a different one yesterday. I was awarded .20 per gift card on Friday and the same on Saturday. Is this a fluke or is Martin's changed their policy?
At that rate is doesn't pay to buy the gift card. $.20 per 20 gallons is $4 savings for a $6 gift card....

Yesterday: S & S #1, buy $500 VGC, show id, mgr keys in, checks id, good to go. Head to S & S #2 (these are all in a line to Wal*Mart) and same thing. To Wal*Mart for the money order and back down the line to my Credit Union to deposit. Today: Repeat of yesterday but get gas on the way home. 35 Gallons cost 67 cents. All good.

I had the same issue on Martins food. I checked with the customer service they told me .20 cents is the max for each transaction.

I just earned 2000 points for $1k VGC at Giant in Alexandria, VA. The points posted immediately and showed on the receipt.

And to the people having problems - I have screenshots of the offer from all four chains' weekly adverts if you want to take it up with customer service.

Something I noticed in Central NJ, could extend life of your points. They charged me 2,200 points when I filled up. The actual amount was 1,470 (at $1.47/gallon), and I received 730 back two days later. I noticed that these 730 points expire 30 days from when they posted back. So, that's kind of nice to know, assuming you fill up in NJ and end up getting points charged and then redeemed back -- you can extend life on some of your points. S&S system takes your next expiring points next time around, so these points will be use used later on, I checked, as I filled up my 2nd car and same thing happened.

I guess, I never noticed as gas stayed over $2.20 last time around, or I just didn't pay close enough of attention.

Anyone else noticed this? Maybe it is Central New Jersey specific.

Cheers,

PedroNY
