As of 9/18/21: WM loads are no longer free. WM will charge each load (no matter what the size) $3.74 in addition to the money being deposited into your Go Bank account.
GoBank fees and limits:
Cash deposits are limited to $2,500 per day and $3,000 per 30 days, subject to a maximum account balance of $50,000.
The monthly fee will accumulate if the account is dormant. You must call the phone number on the back to close the account.
5/29/19 - There may be a difference in which card gets free loads at WM. Getting the card online through GoBank.com sends out a Visa version. This card may not allow free loads at WM. Reports are that getting the card directly at WM will result in free loads. If anyone can confirm this, please do so.

If you are willing to pay the $3.74 WM fee, then you should be able to load $500 with 4 swipes. Using $200 Staples VGCs, your three cards will load $500 snd be charged $503.74, leaving 2 cards empty and one with $196.26.
This cannot be done at the MC or service desk, but rather at a cashier. who may be less than enthused about doing multiple swipes and loads especially if there is a line behind you.

Do I have to tell them it's split payment before my 1st GC swipe? I think the system would be smart enough to only take $200 from the GC and then ask you for remaining payment on POS. Just wondering if it's something the cashier needs to do different to not mess it up.
I know when purchasing WM GC and paying with VGC/MCGC, WM self checkout POS would only deduct what's left on the VGC/MCGC.

You mean do it at the money services desk? Don't think regular checkout cashier can do this.

It is always best to be up front with the person doing your bidding. First, it smooths the process if they know that your card does not have the full amount you are depositing and that you need to use more than one card. Second, it saves time because you know at the start if the rep is going to allow the transaction, or going to turn you away either because they don't know how to do it or have the crusader complex. . Finally, it's just polite to not spring things on people when you want them to do something that they don't ordinarily do.

I was able to do one $200 VISA Grocery Everywhere Card swipe at the money counter. Wanting to know if I can split payment over 3 cards, so $200 + $200 + $100. To help spread out the $3.74 fee

yes. You should able to use max 4 cards for load. But if you swipe the go card 1st you can use max 3.

I was referring specifically to the yellow VGCs that are sold by Staples.

However, the use of your card is limited until you get the permanent one. That is described in the T&C's

No, you can only do initial load. After that, need to wait for chip card to come in. I learned this the hard way.

Even the card name has changed to Go2Bank :
Just as a reminder, loading money other than DD costs at least $3.74 at WM and more elsewhere, so not a great method for MSing.

Thanks, didn't know that. I have had the Go card for years and it has changed since I originally bought in.

Purchased Greendot Visa Debit Card during one of the promos with the intention of online spend. Upon attempt to register, says unable to verify identity and that a new card with my name won't be sent. Says I can still use this card but for in-person transactions only--am I SOL? All my purchases are organic spend online and have plenty of cards to put organic spend on.
