Note that ringing up multiples (e.g., 3 x $100 cards) only applies the discounts to the first $150, so you will only be able to get one deal per transaction. However there is nothing preventing you from doing multiple transactions (provided the sales rep will do it).

I think it must just be dependent on the store and the cashier.
I went to buy some gas cards and the cashier had to double check with a manager to see if they would allow me to purchase them with a credit card.....
It would be pretty ridiculous if they expect people to pay cash for them.
I would try a different cashier/store/night shift

Closest store to me (in MD) is the same way. Not just Amex, but also Visa cards can't be bought with CC. Have tried all times of day at that store, and all cashiers insist it's cash only. Other stores further away don't have that rule; it's just one store.

just back from OM, total waste of time, three guys could not make it work.
they even tried to override but system wont let them override amex gc price.
the lady said i had to buy a $150 amex gc to get the discount and their doesn't carry those cards. ...!

OM cashier has to scan a barcode in the coupon binder to apply the discount manually. OD register applies coupon automatically.
