I don't interpret it this way. I read the message as Evolve saying they in order to avoid the "recurring payment" tag that will cause rejection by the GC issuers, you can't specifically schedule your payment for a future date. I don't believe this is the same thing as requesting an "Express Payment," that results in a charge.

Interesting experience: I scheduled two GC-based payments to my mortgage lender over the weekend. The first one, scheduled for Monday got rejected for the recurring payment reason. The second one was scheduled for today and it went through without a problem. Both were Metabank VGCs.

Here is my observation. I had been able to pay my insurance with USAA until the recent change for free. Now however there is a lightening bolt next to the USAA tag in my bills listing. Before I had the choice to add as express or non express. Now it is combined and defaults to express. Trying to schedule for next day charge to debit fails. My other bills still work fine.

I had scheduled two payments yesterday of $200 with visa metabank GC. One for APS (power) that was supposed to go through today but didnt because of a "problem with my card". The other payment was a mortgage payment scheduled for the 1st that is still pending using the same type of GC. Not sure why the first one failed, Ive paid that merchant with the same type of gift card a couple times before.

I didn't have to call in, they reattempted my payments automatically and it appears that they have now gone through.

From what I can see, as long as I don't try to make the payments on weekend days, they have all gone through without a hitch!

I'll keep using them, as long as they work! One payment did go through with teh express charge and I didn't select that option. It was a small utility bill, so that one will just continue to be paid as it was previously. On the other hand, one utility charges 5-6.00 to make a CC payment, so I am pleased to be able to pay through evolve, especially since I have anywhere from 1-3 accounts open with that utility, depending on whether my building is rented or not!

Yeah, I noticed that too. USAA was the first bill I tried to pay with Evolve a couple of months ago. I did an express payment, just to see if it worked and it did. Now, however, my wife's USAA payment only gives the express option. USAA is the only biller I have noticed this problem for so far.

Doesn't USAA accept credit card payments for insurance? If so, why would you pay with evolve for a bill that can be paid with CC?

Because I get 6% back buying the debit card from grocery store vs 1% back from USAA. That 5% difference allows me to buy 5 other debit cards with my miles earning cards basically for free.

I made a payment yesterday and I received an email says my account(for the biller) is closed because I made payments through multiple users.

It was true I did make payments through multiple users, but that was 3 months ago, after I aware of they don't like it I stopped it. It is interesting that what is the trigger to let them run some program to find out I did that several months ago.

Anyway, I feel this MS method will be dead soon as they are implementing more and more restrictions...

You can still buy the debit card from the grocery store and use the debit card directly on USAA thus bypassing Evolve.

Hadn't thought of that before. I will look into it.

Thanks

I've been doing this for some time now, but it seems my recent payments were the trigger for closure.

EDIT: Wanted to add that I stayed within the maximum of 4 payments.
