No, I didn't do anyting special. They told me it would take 20 bizz days, and the check actually arrived earlier than I expected.
Good luck!

ADmins.. congrats for getting your money back.
It appears that people can get their money back within 2 weeks from NS after acct closure. Did you have to do anything other than call to request your money back? No FDIC report? For the other posters.. YES, it is possible to have two NS accounts. I HAVE TWO. Yes, you can load money into both accounts. Yes, you need to setup two online accounts one for each NS account. The only missing elment is whether each account has its own loading limits or that maximum load limits are tied to per social security #. I'm going to take my time to test out NS. After reading about all the account closures it doesn't appear NS is any worse or better than any other cards. So I'm going to hit them with moderation. Sure beats having to find new homes every few weeks. |

It seems that they charged a few dollars for the check, or for talking to the CSR, but I am not quite sure.
It wouldnt surprise me that they are cutting the checks faster after a few of us went the FDIC path and NS was read the riot act on what they are doing by the FDIC, which I assume keeps track of the # of complaints they are receiving and what the problem/s are |
I haven't read through the whole thread but here is a data point incase:
I've had two Netspend accounts for about 2 months. Gentle loading and bill pay on each account. About 2000 each account total. Try to log on after a load of $500 each yesterday through debit. There is a problem with my account. I think Man, already?, so I call in and enjoy waiting on hold for about 50 minutes to find that there was an attempt of a log in from another state so they shut down both accounts. I had these two accounts in my mint.com to keep track of them and that is what triggered the fraud alert. They said don't put them in mint unless you want to keep triggering fraud alerts. |
Thank you, and Fico2Go also provided a data point for my question. I shoulda added a question 2...
Did you try to refer yourself? http://www.netspend.com/why_netspend...a_friend.shtml FWIW that, or just joining the Conga, would seem to net the same bonus eventually if there are no hiccups. But due to a post in the Conga, it seems better to not test the likelihood of me screwing up the Conga. |
FDIC link for those that need it:

At times my regular Wells Fargo and TCF bank have failed or errored out but netspend worked from overseas. Problem is NS can cost up to $6 per atm withdrawal. Well worth it. I'm looking forward to using more NS responsibly for MSing. Hopefully all the complaints from FDIC will force them to think twice about closing down accounts. |

There aren't that many prepaid products that accept VRs. I don't think getting a quick check is part of my plan. Isn't the idea to maintain a lifelong relationship with NS for the purpose of MSing?
There must be a better way than having to find new VR accepting prepaid cards every few weeks. So if loading $2k or less per month is your target loading, then youd be OK. With what Id end up paying in fees to be their target customer its not worth my time nor effort since what I will gain will be at too a high a price |

I've not loaded less than $500 in a day yet. What planet are u from? but if $2k per month works for you or anyone else thats fine with me, its just too little for me to bother with, knowing if not enough fees are incoming to NS theyw ill shut me down and hold my $$ for as long as they can |

sorry left a 'k' off after the $2 s/b $2k and not $2. Its not so much how much per day but per month, seems most folks get the Hold placed on their accts after loading $3k

NS is just one of those options. |
How easy is it to set the PIN on the temp card, without registering?
Also, is this like the PayPal card (since PayPal card is a NetSpend product) where they bill the monthly fee (even on unregistered cards) within the first 24 hours of activation? Why do I ask? Vons/Pavillions/Safeway has a Just4U offer that nearly waives the purchase on the card, it's a one-time offer, but, I've got multiple Just4U accounts. I'm not all that interested in registering for another prepaid card, I really do much prefer using these as PIN enabled GC's |

I just wanted to warn the folks that NS isnt as nice to deal with as MVD is. MVD is more willing to reopen an acct and put a person in Spend Down and thusly be able to get their funds out. While NS will simply shut you down, demand that you send them in everything and then reopen your acct some time later so that you can Spend Down. Im sure a person here or there will get reopened and akllowed to continue with both MVD and NS, but if the patteren of loading & unloading doesnt change the axe wont be far off Im still waiting for the check they said they were cutting on Fri to arrive, by the time I get it it will be apx 6 weeks since I spoke with them. The only reason Im getting the check is due to my filing a complaint with the FDIC,otherwise NS would still be holding onto my $$ until I supplied them with everything they wanted and that I dont have. Not everyone can handle the float. (I know if they cant they dont belong playing this game). |
Hawk, thanks for the tip. Late November I couldn't figure out a way re one-time use, so from memory my conclusion is the conga beats the just4u (late November the 50 CVS Extrabucks beat both). FWIW there's no monthly fee (you can choose a fee plan but the default is no monthly fee but $1 credit fee and $2 debit fee).
