Netspend

I just saw below notice in my NetSpend account:

IMPORTANT: Effective May 21, 2013, and until further notice, for security reasons your Card Account may not be used to obtain cash (1) at any ATM, or (2) by making an Over the Counter Cash Withdrawal at any financial institution (also referred to as an "OTC withdrawal") located in any of the following nations: Jamaica, Vietnam, and the Dominican Republic.

Is this something posted to all accounts?
(I have never used the card at an ATM or for cash advance, nor have I ever been to Jamaica, Vietnam, or the Dominican Republic!)

And what kind of security reason permits a financial institution to restrict people's access to their own money at an ATM?!

xp0 May 15, 2013 4:31 am

Do you live in either Jamaica, Vietnam, or the Dominican Republic ?

flyerguy0707X May 15, 2013 8:50 am

I live in Missouri. never an issue with my card.. same message.

It sounds like the restriction for ATM or cash advances only applies to use in Jamaica, Vietnam, and the Dominican Republic. If you don't visit any of those countries, then you won't be affected.

Netspend limited my account

I've got an error when trying to login to my Netspend account today.
When I called them they told me I put too many reloads on my account and they can allow me to load only $3500 per month. Anybody has similar experience?
Do you know if it is possible to open the second Netspend card?

I wish Gobank behaved like that. I would like to have a limit instead of being shut down. I'd be happy if I were you.

TheDapperDon Jul 26, 2013 1:41 pm

Btw, how are you loading that card?

I use GoBank too. What was your loading pattern before they shut you down?

I was loading 2 beans every day for about 4 months, occasionally 3-4 beans per day. I was on vacation for 3 weeks, then I started again and was suspended. I also used Reloadit few days ago in addition to VR and got an error message when trying to load 2 Reloadit cards on the same day. I don't know if this is related.
So anybody tried to open the second Netspend card?

cyclotron Jul 26, 2013 2:55 pm

I loaded one Reloadit to my Netspend card today. Sine then I have not been able to load any more Reloadits. I called Reloadit and they said that netspend is rejecting the load. I called Netspend and they are saying the card is in good standing and I should contact Reloadit.

Anyone else with similar issues?

Yes, I had exactly the same experience with Reloadit. I waited one day and then I was able to load another Reloadit card. But 2 days later I got the problem described in this topic.

I just visited one NumericallyNumbered gas station where I purchased a couple of beans recently and the manager told me that he received a call yesterday and somebody was asking about my purchases of VRs. They asked him if he knows what I am using them for and they said I purchased a lot of them recently. I was a little shocked, but he was Ok to sell me more VRs.
Any idea what that could be? He told me the call was from the company that sells "this stuff". But it's really weird for InComm to ask such questions since they have all the information. Could it be a call from Netspend? But how do they know where I purchased VRs?

ctbarron Jul 26, 2013 7:30 pm

Groundhog,

The calling around is strange. Please report back if you find anything.

There have been reports of this happening, see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manuf...se-incomm.html

Groundhog,
I had a similar experience at MurphyUSA (Walmart gas stations) except due to the timing of the phone call, the purchases were not verified and my VRs were deactivated. After about an hour and a half standing around in the Texas heat while the manager made phone calls, I had my cards reactivated. Perhaps this is something that is happening for gas stations?

I'm curious if this is really Incomm contacting the stores or if the stores have internal departments that are keeping an eye on transactions. The manager at murphyUSA kept referring to "help desk." That is who she called, who in turn called Incomm, to reactivate the cards.

Netspend - no money order option

I received a new Netspend card and when I activated my online account - I don't see "Money order" option under "Pay bills". I have only automated and express payments available, but no money order.
What happened? My other Netspend card has it.

jk2 Aug 23, 2013 9:20 am

Does Netspend card offer a Bill Pay service?

Silverthunder Sep 16, 2013 3:36 pm

Anyone figure out what the deal is with the bill pay?

I opened my account in January of this year. Like the last couple of posters, I just have Moneygram payments, an express bill pay which costs $, and a feature to "pull" money from my account. Anyone know why some accounts don't have the bill pay feature where Netspend mails out a money order? Is it at all safe (from an account closing perspective) to have one of my outside banks "pull" money?

My family member just opened Netspend account and doesn't have Money Order option either. Only one of my oldest accounts with Netspend has this feature. Does it mean they disabled it?

Netspend questions...,

I have some simple net spend questions and if someone can private message that would be great...I know I can dig through the posts to find the answers but if someone can help that would be great..

On Netspend how much can you load from vanilla reloads?

Amex never bothers me about buying reloads but what about Britsh airways chase visa....will they question your charges?

I still don't know that answer. I was fortunate to run a decent amount through my Netspend account before I got shut down. Typically, and per the T&Cs, you can load up to $7,500 per day. However, during my first 30 days, I seemed to be locked into no more than $15K for the first month, and same treatment after my first hand slap. Now, a friend has a card, and loading seems to be cut off at much smaller daily levels.

A simple search of this forum showed two existing threads dealing with Netspend.

Seems like there is no true answer... They must limit you like blue bird, blue bird is 5k per month.

Above, someone who was loading multiple cards every day got slapped back, not shut down, and told 3500 a month.

Not clear whether they would be more lenient if some were not beans but their own brand of ReLoadits...

paging BenH :)

On mine and my girlfriend's accounts, we've been capped at $3500. Any idea if it's a calendar or rolling month?

not sure

netspend a little more $ than other ways to MS. I limit to $500-1k/month since fees are higher than other methods. i could just buy MO with MC instead. much easier

edit:
I guess both require trips to WM but with mc I can do it all in one trip, though I guess I could bring a laptop and load while on the run with VR

If you are MOing @ Wallys why limit yourself to $500-1000 its the same $2 fee so get 2 $1k MOs

yup, not sure why I said 500 to continue with. I did a small one as a test the first time. definitely want to maximize value for fees, thanks.

Would someone post a link to the major Netspend thread here on FT? I'd like to read it but the search function isnt pulling up anything.

It's calendar. I was able to enter 3K more this morning.

I've been looking for it, as well. Search doesn't seem to bring it up.

brettskyg Dec 9, 2013 1:53 pm

It ;looks l;ike you can do a bill pay if you initiate it from your biller's site, not netspend.

zceuxbhjutf Dec 9, 2013 3:47 pm

Yeah, that's what I plan to test first.

On one of netSpend's summary pages or something it implies billpay is $1, but when you try to pay a bill via your account the links I was clicking usually indicated something like "fee varies" and the fees seemed all over the map (but higher than $1). Clicking something else gives the ACH details specific to your account, with the implication that that sort of billpay is free.

Any netSpenders wanna post a short Strategy Primer? There's new netSpenders due to the silly CVS/PayPal promo from right before Thanksgiving.

aeneas3 Dec 9, 2013 7:52 pm

Here is what I am doing:
- 1k/ month for now until the beginning of the year with beans purchased at RA
- use netspend card to purchase MO

per 1k spent:
- 3.95 VR activation x 2
- $2 debit fee
- $9.90/1k

You can offset the fees with the netspend referral conga, you will get $40 in referral bonuses. I am unsure of the bill pay. I was basically going to use this card to get the fees to be offset by the referral cash. of course you could just get the referral money and run...

zceuxbhjutf Dec 9, 2013 10:30 pm

Thanks, ae...

Re VR can I cut that in half via ReloadIt $950 max at Safeway (i.e. kinda looking for a wiki re buying X with a CC)?

Re MO say you then deposit at Bank Z. Have you tried the alternative of using Z's website to instead do an ACH-pull from netSpend? Was it free?
EDIT: I USED MY CC WEBSITE TO ACH-Pull from netSpend FOR FREE

Thanks!

Unable to load card

My netspend card had been going strong for ~ 10 months
However now I am unable to load any money on it at all. I have loaded 1.4K this month and 1.5K in November. When I try to load it with VR it says that I have exceeded the recharge limit. I am still able to login and see my transactions and balance.

Any thoughts on is this a shut down or if they have new limits on how much we can load and unload each month?
