Coming to the end of my first month with these guys. Did 1.5k on one card; 2k on a spousal card. Load via VR and pull to CC billpay within a few days. Planning to run with similar numbers in Feb. Can someone point me to where learned that it is 3.5k per calendar month (as opposed to rolling ~30 days)?
|
Somebody was precise with their experience...
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/21890190-post35.html ...and generous to share it. It is quite possible that it's a moving target. P.S. Is there an advantage to a spousal card LOL??? |
From the horse's mouth!
I emailed Netspend for specifics on load limits and after THREE attempts of getting varying responses from three different CSRs here are the specifics:
• Maximum load or deposit up to $15, 000 in a 24 hour period, • Maximum of $7,500 In Store per 24-hour load amount, • Maximum of $15,000 In Store per 30-day load amount. • Maximum of $3,500 reload pack per 7- day load amount • Maximum of $5,000 reload pack per 30- day load amount. The maximum balance allowed is $15,000.00 per government ID [SSN]. If a deposit exceeds the balance limit, our system may automatically reject the deposit. Please note that our reload centers may have internal policies that have lower load limits. In this case, you may go to a different reload partner and load more funds to your card, as long as you do not exceed NetSpend's maximum load limit. IN contrast here are MoneyPak limits per prepaid product: $1,500 per day, $3,500 per week or $5,000 per month In each of the three emails.. the response always start with, "I have further reviewed your account and our record shows that your account supports the following limits:" I wonder if this means that each Netspend account has different limits? |
Right, but given the shutdown reports (or the next reload failed) that coincided with exceeding 3500...
AND THE LACK of "they didn't shut me down when I recently exceeded 3500" reports... Then who would recommend exceeding 3500??? |
Yes, all were VR loads and ACH payments

In a previous post, one reported the limit is 3500 per 7 days, and 5000 per 30 days. I thought it would be find to load 4500 in 30 days, and I never got a warning.

Dunno why folks are exceeding that, but thanks, cuz it helps the rest of us nail down the limit. |
Did you request a check for your remaining balance in your account? How long since then?
They told me my check would arrive in 20 business days, but I am afraid there will be a fight...

NS is a very nasty company since few folks are keeping it active lately (forget what people were doing in '13) IMO its best to stay as far away from them and their other companys as possible |

Seems you could even load up to $3500 per day as long as it's not more than that in a 7 day period. |
I loaded just 3500 in 7 days, so basically I did not exceed this limit. Anyway, NetSpend is just a crappy company.
My PayPal debit card was also closed, and I believe it is caused by my NS shutdown. But no big deal for me: I was about to close the PayPal card since I never used it to load and upload VRs.

I think loading 4500 in 30 days wasn't what got the account closed, it was the 3500 in 7 days part that perhaps created some obfuscations.

Please forgive the break in the chain here.
Yesterday a very nice CS person steered me toward a grocer chain Netspend card. Upon reading the info booklet, I don't see any attractive reload options other than cash and DD, definitely no VR emblems shown. What Netspend debit card include VR reloads? I get it if there are too many to list so just a few names in reply could be helpful. TIA! :) |

Jan, if you want a NS I humbly recommend you head over to the Conga...
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/s-p-m...ding-40-a.html P.S. Not here, but in lotsa your posts you quote somebody, then draw a line, then write your reply. FWIW many many readers will never read your reply because of the line. That's cuz lines are automatically inserted in anybody's post who uses a signature and lines are automatically inserted in any edited post and 99% of folks ignore or at best quickly skim signatures and edit stamps. HTH. |

I'm wondering if all the account closures and extra suspicions are limited to VR packs only? Based on the following conditions it would appear that VR packages have smaller limits than in store loads. • Maximum of $7,500 In Store per 24-hour load amount, • Maximum of $15,000 In Store per 30-day load amount. Has anyone had a NS account closed using in-store loads? |
Ummm, is anyone DOING in-store loads?
This is the first month where my goal is to maximize: No VR, all 950 ReloadIts (~50% success re CC), all draining via ACH-pull (100% success). One exception: I plan to do one fast food transaction a month to throw them $1. Are you MSing with NS? P.S. You wrote you have two cards. Same SSN/etc? P.P.S. Edit...$161.13 profit per ($3499 self-imposed limit) month per NS card (if RIs bought with 5% cashback CC). We'll see... |

My NS then was even more reliable than my regular bank debit cards. Never a fraud alert while my bank card occasionally triggerd fraud phone calls. I am using GD and GCs mostly for MSing. I do plan to use NS after some DD. couldn't reopen my NS account from a few years ago so I requested a free card from their website. Had to go through ID and SS# verification. On the same weekend I also purchased a NS card at a local gas station. That card also required ID verification and SS, etc.. Although both cards are under the same ss# both have two separate account # and required TWO separate verfications. I have two separate NS logins. |
[QUOTE=zceuxbhjutf;22253874]Ummm, is anyone DOING in-store loads?
QUOTE] Not many are doing in stores which is understandable due to cost. But after factoring in time in line to buy MOs and the headaches of random account closures and other issues, paying an extra reload fee could save the day. But that's just coming from someone that hasn't yet used this method. |

So you managed to reopen two NS cards, right? Did NS require you to send proof of ID & ID?
BTW, what is GD?

I'm not sure how NS monitors customers. But I was a NS customer from 2008 to 2012. At the time I would deposit cash at a retail location and could make purchases, pay for gas, and withdraw from ATM ..even while I was working internationally. Never had a single issue.

How to do in-store loads? Which stores will let you use credit cards?

I think a better question might be who allows in store loading with GC? A WM cashier can reload up to $1000 ( $3.70 ) using GCs with a pin. Problem is you would need to pay for the giftcards. Potential cost = 3.70+$9.90 per $1000 GC value. or $13.60 to load $1000. A bit pricey but could save a lot of time and frustration. |
After a series of login failures, I called customer service and they told me they would send me password reset info within a half hour. After not getting that, I called back and they told me my account had been closed. Their customer service reps are friendly but totally useless...closure decisions are made by customer account reps you aren't allowed to speak with.
I was able to push $6500 in VRs through over six weeks, with $5K in Jan. Liquidated all through ACHs. |
Thanks for your helpful information.

Same thing happened to me. I guess when you failed to log in, you account had been closed.

After my gb acct also got shut down, I have lost any sense of guilt I have about "using" the services of these "banks". |

I made the terrible mistake of purchasing a NetSpend card at a Valero. The promotional offer was a $5 credit, which waived the $4.95 activation fee.
I was very impulsive and did it without reading some of the negative experiences most of y'all have had. I also didn't realize all the fees associated with using it compared to my bluebird. Anyways, they want my SSN to activate it, which makes me uncomfortable to begin with as they appear to be very shady. I have $500 in that card, which I loaded at the gas station with a CC. What's the best way to get my money out the card without creating issues and minimizing fees? I highly appreciate any feedback or a referral. |
Sent you a pm coltonatx. It's all going to be okay.
|
I am still going strong here.
The beauty of the money orders at walmart is - as long as you stay under 2k you do not have to show ID - you can purchase more than 1 money order in the same transaction so it translates to: - $2k VR added to netspend for 3.95x2=7.90 - purchase $1k MO and 996 MO today for $2 netspend fee + 1.70 MO fee ---- 3.70 in added fees on top of VR, which amounts to 3.95+$1.85/1k Compared to visa gc, for which you would pay 4.95 + 0.70/1k MO, which will only save you $0.15 In other words, it is not a horrible deal for liquidated VR if you get stuck with them. I tend to find it easier to pay the extra $0.15 and look like I am paying with a debit card compared to two VR gcs when buying an MO. I have not done ach or moneygram payments. Also, your referrals can pay for your fees |
so it translates to:
- $2k VR added to netspend for 3.95x2=7.90 - purchase $1k MO and 996 MO today for $2 netspend fee + 1.70 MO fee How are you able to buy $2000 worth of VR for $7.90? Isnt the limit $500 per card and thus four is needed? Or $15.80 total VR cost? |
meh... got shutdown by NS today.
Had the account for almost a year and ran several thousand gently thru the account. Recently loaded $3,000 over the course of the last two weeks - quite in line with prior loads but got the dreaded "There's something wrong..." message this morning. CS repeated the usual reasons ie not used as intended yada yada. Anyway...20 biz days and then I should get the check. Funny thing is my PP prepaid (also run by the Metabanksters punks) is also inaccessible but the CS said the website is down. NS is more trouble then it's worth |

Nope.
Gently loaded only VR and even more gently unloaded via ACH billpay. More surprised I lasted as long as I did given reports here and elsewhere.

Why would you push so hard so fast? Doesn't it make more sense to do half of that volume per month indefinitely? You'd only have to make it past the third month at 2.5k/mo to have come out ahead.
2. I'm not sure it makes a difference to the likes of Netspend or GoBank or whether I am unprofitable over the short term or unprofitable over the long term. All of my activity in both cases was fully consistent with their explicit terms and conditions (i.e. load limits). The fact that they operate according to an additional set of implicit terms and conditions (i.e. limits within the limits) that they don't disclose to their customers is something I cannot control. Proves again why BB is the tool of choice...they tell you their rules upfront and as long as you play within those rules, all is well. |

So far, as of tonight, I finally got the HRB Emerald Debit and I am becoming more comfortable as I read about BB. Just waiting for an inactive Serve account to close so I can try the BB, I think. This is off topic but two of our family BOA cards (one a rewards card) were recently just changed due to reporting of breach (Target?) without either of us knowing BOA was doing this. My son's card was declined publicly today. I think BOA is handling this poorly because they are not advising FIRST before they make these changes. They claim they sent the new card already. |
I received two different cards in the mail. My application must have processed twice. I only activated one for now but any idea if I could activate the 2nd card and load to it?

They shut my 1st one down wanting all the info w/o telling me. I dont have the documents they want and wasnt worth putting the effort in to get them.when they refused early Jan to let me drain my acct or send me back my $$$,I simply filed online with the FDIC. Got aleter dated 2/5 that basically stated everything thatw as said with their reps and mgrs and acknowledged the FDIC had contacted them and that they were in the process of cutting me a check w/o charging me any fees for doing so :D So id say NS is doable expect a Hold on your acct after you drain it the 1st time and they will allow you to loadit but not unlaod. So if you cant afford to let them sit on your funds dont load it after your 1st unloading. When you cant unload call them and when they tell you everything they want you to send them simply file a complaint with the FDIC and a month later the check will arrive. Just tell teh FDIC what happened and that they refused to give you your $$ and you want a fee free check and for them to close your acct |
Orange, I'm gonna try to get a second card. But since you already have one, just activate it right now and report back.
If you have success, I'll continue with my plan. I'll load a ReloadIt and a day or two later do an ACH-pull, then when that clears I'll post my success right here. |
Got check today. Account was closed on 1/27.
|
It seems that they charged a few dollars for the check, or for talking to the CSR, but I am not quite sure.

It appears that people can get their money back within 2 weeks from NS after acct closure. Did you have to do anything other than call to request your money back? No FDIC report? For the other posters.. YES, it is possible to have two NS accounts. I HAVE TWO. Yes, you can load money into both accounts. Yes, you need to setup two online accounts one for each NS account. The only missing elment is whether each account has its own loading limits or that maximum load limits are tied to per social security #. I'm going to take my time to test out NS. After reading about all the account closures it doesn't appear NS is any worse or better than any other cards. So I'm going to hit them with moderation. Sure beats having to find new homes every few weeks. |
