This is the thread for posts through 2016. The new thread for 2017 is http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1826119-billpay-walmart-2017-a.html

Bill Pay cannot be done at a regular register.
It must be done at Customer Service/Returns.
Or at the Money Center in stores that have it.

BUSINESS DAY transaction completion time is 18:59:59 EST
Friday after 06:59PM EST, until Monday BEFORE 07:00PM EST arrives Tuesday
Tuesday BEFORE 7:00PM arrives Wednesday
Wednesday BEFORE 07:00PM arrives Thursday
Thursday BEFORE 07:00PM arrives Friday
Friday BEFORE 07:00PM arrives Monday
But when a next-day payment will post and be visible depends upon the CC issuer.

--------------------------------------------------------------
WM offers two BP services: CheckFreePAY and MoneyGram. The cashier can initiate CheckFreePAY by selecting Money Services followed by Bill Pay on the register for a fee of $1-1.88. Moneygram is $4.99.

Once your CFP account is set up, you can add cc. When you want to BP give them your phone# to look up your account under Money Services. They often get confused and think you want MG, but just say it is under Money Services.

ONLY 4 successful debit card swipes can pay for a transaction.

ONLY 5 payments per 16 digit account number per rolling 30 days.
--------------------------------------------
:-:VISA and MC
If your particular card isn't on the list below, try "VISA" or "MASTERCARD."

"VISA" and "MASTERCARD" payee can no longer be found by search at some stores. If the employee can no longer find "VISA" or "MASTERCARD" by searching in CheckFreePAY, then you cannot pay either, end of story.

Following do not work:
Any and all Vanilla VISA, Vanilla MC, and OneVanilla VISA.
Glimcher VISA
MASTERCARD
$1.88 next day.
Works:

This is interesting, and I hate to be a "please spoon feed me" person, but can someone break down the advantage of this - is the primary advantage speed?

Why would I pay $1.50 or $1.88 when I can get a money order for .70 cents, deposit it into an account that pays you for bill paying, like Discover's new banking product (.10 profit per bill pay) - and have a net loss of .60 cents instead of $1.88?

I realize it makes more sense if you are doing huge sums and you hit the MO limit.

two reasons:
a. much higher limit so less visit to WM and save gas.
b. don't have to go to the bank to deposit mos.

tried to pay over 3K but they said it required to record my ssn and I don't feel comfortable having them writing down my ssn and drivers license in a file where any cashier will have access to.

That is interesting. I will try to repeat this and see if the outcome is any different.

I have made 4 bill pay transactions at Wally World in last week. First was to citi business visa on6/10 for1500. It was showing on line by 6/13. I paid1.88 as that was the only choice I was given. Also citi in Puerto Rico showed up on list but not just regular Citibank so I paid it under visa . They wanted the mailing zip to do this but luckily I had the statement with me. Made a second payment to citi visa business yest for $1400. ( max I could get it up to with the cards I had available. ) Hasn't posted on web site yet. Again think it was next day and cost $1.88. Two more this am. She let me buy two money orders and do two bill pay. Prob were just arbitrary limits but I just smiled and said no prob. I paid discover this am. Total I was able to pay was eight hundred with four $200 cards. This one only cost a dollar to send. There were two discover choices so I just went with the one that was discover. Other payment was cap one. There were two choices for that one, I took the basic. Paid total amount bc it was under my eight hundred dollar/4card limit. Cost $1.50. Asked about the differences in prices. Was told some are one day and some are up to three. The machine makes the decision on most of them although occasionally there is a choice. Overall, fairly painless. I managed to get 45 of those $200 OM cards so I am liquidating as quickly as possible

Reminds me of a joke from my German professor: What is the difference between sex and fear? Answer in white:

Two. The German word for six is "sex" und the word for four is "vier," pronounced "fear."

This. It's also hard to pay my credit card bills with money orders.

paid 2.9K AMEX bill and they did not ask to see my id but yet the system prompt to input SSN. Since it was entered electronically on the screen I gave it to them. For $1 charge it should hit my AMEX account in 3 business days.

For my card if they put the issuer (e.g. Capital 1) as the payee it is $1.50, if they use 'Visa' it is $1.88. I haven't quite determined if one is faster than the other.
