FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: CWAL
A new thread was created for the new year in 2017. This is the old thread. For the 2017 on this topic, go here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1819562-cvs-master-thread-2017-a.html

CVS is cash only for all Incomm-related reloads and reloadable cards, including Vanilla Reloads and Serve swipe reloads. See memo to stores for complete list. Other cards at CVS can still be bought using credit, but YMMV depending on location, Manager, etc.

New limits rolling out starting 10/20:
Transactions with $300 or more of card face value require ID.
Limit $2000 of card face value per 24 hour rolling period.
Limit of 10 cards per 24 hours.
Cashback posted in 48 hours.

Cash Register Freezing
Multiple reports that the CVS cash register will freeze and lock after scanning the ID when purchasing multiple prepaid cards. Then the register's computer needs to be restarted. Some report that "swiping" the ID instead of "scanning" will avoid the issue.

Limit of 7 tenders (swipes) per transaction. This is most commonly run into when using low-value AGCs. After seven, the transaction must be complete, no cash (or any other payment method) will be accepted to pay the balance.

can you still get the other vanilla reload card (not re loadable) with a CC? Last time i bought that by mistake, it had a 4.95 fee but was still able to load BB with it at Walmart.

Business as usual in SAT. It would be convenient if our newest Executive card would show up.

Data point: Went to CVS in NYC, 42nd and 3rd, and my fav cashier was not able to load my serve card. it was hard coded in the system to 'not allowed tender type' or something like that. She tried to get the manager to void it, but they were not allowed.

I'm going to try another in in NYC on my way home, but this is not a good sign!

I know they're not listed in the memo, but any data points on OV where the VR have been cash only?

Serve load is gone in Philly center city as well. I tried on my usual store. I was able to do it yesterday.

Does anyone still doubt that this is going to be system wide, just a matter of rolling out the block?

In light of 'memo #2' it seems unlikely this won't ultimately be chain-wide.

I had $5k go through as normal last night in Norwalk CT (Main Ave). The cashier looked at my receipt and said "Look at that, 7:59pm, you know you can buy more if you want to? The daily limit resets at 8pm every night." I went back and bought $2k more, but I didn't want to put any more spend than that on my Amex card. She then told me about this "crazy guy" who would come in right before 8pm and max out the limit on these "crazy cards", wait a few minutes until 8pm and then max it out again.

Was just in SD over the weekend, and glad to be back near civilization to stock up, ha. SD/ND have nothing!
