No issue here in Bucks County, PA except 2/3 locations that I visited today were sold out and the third was down to a handful on the shelves.

These all used to be reliable locations. I did notice that the one with a couple left on the rack switched to the newest version, so I'm hoping this is just the transition period.

Yeah, there were a few weeks here in the midwest w/o VGC, and that was the transition period.

I noticed various types of gift cards available at my CVS location. Is there a preferred card over the rest?

To be more specific I did not see vanilla "reload" cards, rather tons of Vanilla Prepaid cards and a OneVanilla card and other prepaid cards (american express, etc).

If you have no idea what a Vanilla reload card means, I suggest you do much more homework to learn and understand the various mechanism of the MS before you get yourself in trouble.

The STICKY on the top of this forum would benefit you a lot.

Obviously it's to load your BB or other reloadable card, since that's the purpose of a VR, but why would they ask?

I say it's for online bill payments. I don't say it's an online bill payment to the card I just used to purchase the VRs. :D

I've been asked a few times before. I don't think the cashiers are suspicious rather more curious as to why so many people are buying VRs.

Glitch adding to BB this am. I was still up around midnight last night , decided to do my VR load for the day. Entered two cards that I had scratched off moments before, both said cards were empty. These are the new style card. Went to bed. Up again around five. Attempted to reload, one went through and the five hundred dollars posted into bluebird. Second card still reading as empty. Have the receipt that says loaded. On my credit card statement shows that the transaction went thru. Getting ready to fax receipt to them.

CVS now $1k/day?

Can I buy a VR at CVS with an AMEX gift card? My CVS sells them already via cc'a.

Thanks FlightNurse. Those locations are all over thirty miles away. Here in North County Inland, it's sparse.

I may have to start travelling.

Who ever said that CVS went to all cash? Got it wrong where i live. Nice! I don't think anyone near me does this, lot o cards of love in my CVS

NathanL104 Dec 2, 2013 8:21 am

I have 3 CVS stores near my house that sell these cards. Never had a problem with any store selling the cards, although there are a few cashiers that don't need a manager override to let me purchase $1000.

I went in yesterday to buy a Reload and the one store said the manager had a morning meeting wherein he said Vanilla Reload cards are CASH only. I tried to ask if it was just for the holidays or if he meant only Greendot Moneypaks. No deal, no reload card. I got an explanation that they were having some issues with people using credit cards to buy these. Could it be a fraud issue with a stolen card, or is it possible people are losing the VR and then disputing a charge as invalid? I'm sure the latter is a mess to deal with as a retailer.

I hope it isn't a new trend. I still have 2 stores left, and the one I have to make sure the manager isn't at the register because she tells me cash/debit only. To me, it feels like the door is closing on this one but I'm going to stay optimistic.

Do you mind giving this traveler a hint on where to buy beans in VB?
