I'm still locked out - though for all I know they completed the review and simply closed the account, I won't know until I call in again.

Please update when you call in.
Are you locked out of your account like before? Did you completely empty the account with the CA? I ask the last question because the prior pattern for closure was locked out, released for 48hr to unload after calling in, then as soon as the account is empty it is closed for good. Which is why some cunning souls leave a little in the account so it never actually closes. Another thing to check is if your card is simply unusable but you can still log in, is to call and if you get through to the automated line report your card as NOT stolen. I've had mine locked as a lost card frequently when doing a large CA. Simple call to release it. FDIC and CFPB complaint did work? I think so.... |
Please help I tried to pay my visa bill at wm and it was for 7500, they asked for my dl and my ssn, is that normal, do you give your ssn to pay the bill?? thanks
|
FWIW, I've had 3 cards open for almost six months now. Here's my "pattern":
When Vanilla sprouts, I buy about $40,000, 5k at a time. I load 5x$500 on cards and build them up to a $5,000+ balance. I usually load $2500, wait a few days, then load another $2500. Then I'll wait a few more days and CA $5,000 out. I rotate between my three cards so I never CA more than twice a month with each card. My wife also has 1 card so far. I've just been too lazy to get her other 2 cards. I've never purchased MOs, only CA at banks/CU. I did give them 3-4 swipes when I got my first card. The other two cards have no purchases. I'm not sure why you guys are having all this trouble. Perhaps I haven't crossed the $45,000/year yet for each card, or perhaps letting the money simmer helps? |
Thanks for that data. The $45k a year is for debit, not for credit (like CAs)
|
I also leave a random amount on the card - $0.05 up to $10.00 after a CA. Sometimes I'll CA for random amounts, like $4865.85.

~2.5k is the threshold for extra identification, like ssn. It's expected. Since transaction is big, they want extra data. But I see nothing wrong with that. Splitting it onto multiples 2k or so would look more suspicious to my mind. Executed in different WMs to the same end account, it'd look obvious to the BP processor anyway (if they care enough). |

I wouldn't do such bill payments. Why do you want such attention? Make $1K-$2K payments at the time/visit.
Now, if you're breaking things up because you're paying different cards, or because you're paying with GCs and can therefore only do $2k at a time, then that's different. But if you want to pay a large amount to a single card, do it all at once if you can. Advising otherwise is not wise. |
Very similar for me. All CA.
I kept going when others were hit. But then it was my turn. I strongly suspect they will be going systematically through all accounts that load/spend over a certain threshold. I would think $5k / month is over that limit as that is a lot for most people (MS'ers excluded). Not for abuse prevention reasons but for government compliance. As such, plan for it. Keep those receipts and used VR cards.

Just unloaded my two cards. Left couple of bucks on both. Plan to load these again tomorrow and immediately unload. Just wanna take that chance and see how it goes.

As it's common from prepaid accounts to freeze it and ask for receipts. So be better prepared. I keep it all together in the moment in chronological order, with notes to where it was loaded, but per account - should be the way to go... |
My three cards were shut down again last night. I talked to a supervisor. She said, we know you are loading these cards with Reload Cards, and purchasing them at CVS to earn miles on your credit card. They told me that it is illegal and a fraudulent use of their product. They want copies of my reload cards (last 2 per load) and my last receipt, SS Card, and Driver's license before they will release card for a 48 hr window. My alternative is to have them mail me a check. She said they have been working with the credit card issuers who have requested these shutdowns and they said they are shutting down tons of them every single day and in the past week they are shutting down any account that does not have normal activity. She said basically, there is a daily review of every account ongoing right now linked by the SS(which is why all 3 got shut down, and not just the 1 use) and there is a massive shutdown effort in effect. Also, She said they are working with CVS, who is their partner with the reload cards to hardcode against credit card purchases of this product starting in the very near future. So, I guess the game is over for me and many others.

Wow. I'm amazed she was so verbose. How on earth did you get her to reveal so much?

I will nominate this for the most depressing post of the year.
