So, we have one report that someone "surmised" that Chase closed his/her checking account because of AP deposits. One robin doesn't make a Spring, particularly when that one robin has only been "surmised."
Meanwhile, many others have been successfully making these deposits to Chase accounts repeatedly for years, without incident. |

Pro tip: Don't use checking accounts for MS with banks whose CCs you also want to MS with.
Would have thought this would be completely obvious. |

Any idea what this means?
"We're sorry but this transaction could not be completed because the recipient cannot receive this payment." Tried to eligible recipients and got the same note. |

I've been using credit cards for AP the past year or so, but since it's ending, I'm going to use 5x $200 VGC from Staples without much regard for risk of account closure. I could've sworn that I read somewhere that registering the gift card isn't necessary, but I did a quick Google search and multiple blogs said the cards have to be registered first. Is this true?

So anyone going out with a bang on AP using Chase Freedom 5% bonus?

I suppose this hardly matters anymore since Amazon payments will no longer be accepting person to person transfers next month, but for those of you who use it for other purchases beware!
My account was hacked, funds were transferred from my amazon payments account into amazon gift cards, which were then used to make purchases to a 'hidden for privacy' address in Indiana. I still don't understand how the address can be hidden. I received an email confirming the order and realised I'd been hacked. I immediately cancelled the order, changed my password and contacted amazon. They are refusing to refund the money from gift cards back into my amazon payments account! So I'm stuck with $480 worth of amazon gift card value that I don't want or need. |

I've always been under the impression that amazon payments do not qualify for the 5%...am I wrong?

You are correct and @chener is mistaken. AP does NOT work for the 5% Chase Freedom bonus on Amazon.

But it did work for Discover online shopping.

Ouch. Well at least not all is lost. I am sure you can easily spend $480 worth of amazon stuff. Buy a new small TV or something.
Another option is to use it buy Christmas and other gifts for people. I would rather get "stuck" with $480 in Amazon gift cards than lose the money altogether. OP was lucky they caught it right away |

Can you buy other Amazon gift cards with the balance (I know you have to use a credit card to buy gift cards for merchants outside Amazon and can't use a gift card balance). One way of burning through that would be for the OP to buy amazon gift cards for Christmas and birthday gifts. Also if the OP knows someone that shops on amazon they could sell them a gift card or offering to order the merchandise on amazon and get reimbursed.

Have been doing a simple A>B since the early days, but considering B>A for $1K today, followed by A>B>A again tomorrow. Essentially risking a guaranteed $2K in October (figuring a shutdown would come only after the B>A transaction), for an extra $1K in September.
Anybody else in this boat? I'll probably go for it. I can always make up the difference with GC's, I suppose (just a bigger PITA). |
