List of Higher End Munich Hotels in Alphabetical Order
  • Bayerischer Hof
  • Kempinski Vier Jahreszeiten
  • Mandarin Oriental
  • Sofitel Bayerpost
  • The Charles Hotel

but I, RichardInSF (not speaking as mod), think it's pretty darn clear that the MO and Charles are a step above the other three.

MO Munich is a very proud hotel, to put it nicely. Stayed there in May and service is a few notches above the other Munich hotels indeed. Good product. But many staff members looove what they see in the mirror.

You are right about the staff. It was not always like this - when Rafael managed it, service was really warm and caring. I still like the hotel, though - that and The Charles.

had 2 clients visiting last Nov and really loved the property and thought the service was warm. Staff members were friendly and approachable...but, as we all know, a lot can change in a year's time.

I have a platinum card and have never been upgraded at booking time, so yes, I think it is just for centurion.

I'm not 100% on this but adding to your comment, I think it may only be for U.S. Centurion members. I don't' think the Europe or Asia based Centurion members get confirmed upgrade at booking.

Not true, I hold a German Centurion Card and was upgraded multiple times at the time of booking. Mind you this was in 2013, long before I switched to Virtuoso. I haven't booked anything through FHR in ages.

As far as I know it´s a general Centurion-benefit.

Thank you and scented for the feedback!

Happy to learn of this. My (false) assumption was due to knowing some (non-U.S. based) Cent members that actively uses Virtuoso Agents to increase upgrade odds. So I assumed that Cent didn't confirm upgrades at booking outside the U.S. but clearly, I was mistaken.

sounds like they have toned down upgrades and free nights like everyone else

not sure why it makes sense to discourage spending more (limiting upgrades)

We are thinking of staying at Charles for one night in Munich before heading to Nuremberg. Any disapproval?

No, it´s a fine hotel. If you book a room I would go for the lowest as all double rooms are pretty the same. Suites are nice.

Seems OK to me. Restaurant is OK. Not great but good place to spend the credit.

I've had great feedback from clients on Mandarin Oriental but not everyone here shares the same view.
