Wow, thanks. Rosewood Mayakoba sounds very nice, and $490 is a good price for a suite that has its own plunge pool! However, I am not very familiar with Rosewood resorts. Are they comparable to Four Seasons and other distinguished brands? Is the service similar at Rosewood, such as the service at the pools and beaches?

Not to sound picky, but do you think Mayakoba has comparable beaches to other Caribbean islands? I am glad that this resort has more activities outside of the resort than the Four Seasons Nevis, etc, but I am worried that Rosewood resorts aren't as nice as Four Seasons. I guess I need some evidence.

1. FS Nevis is a favorite here, and well regarded. you cant go wrong there.
2. Rosewood Mayakoba hasnt opened yet, no way to know about service etc.

but FS certainly isnt the only game in town for resorts. theres Aman. and Rosewood definitely has a few >

Las Ventanas al Paraiso is very well regarded here, and fairly expensive.

IIRC the service at Acqualina is regarded as some of the best in FL.

the only negative comments i remember about Caneel Bay, Little Dix Bay, Jumby Bay were that they could use renovations.

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked at Las Ventanas al Paraiso and apparently the hotel is located on a bluff, so the beach isn't exactly within a stonethrow.

I think I am going to play it safe and choose between either Great Exuma or Nevis, but I still am not sure which one to choose. Since Great Exuma opened in 2003 it seems to me that its the most up to date, and the beach may possibly be better... but I may be wrong? The buildings on Nevis looked kind of outdated and old.

most here value service first and foremost.

FS Punta Mita is very well regarded (frequently compared to FS Hualalai) so it might be worth considering. its also Virtuoso/FHR.

but it also depends on your budget - oceanfront for $550 at Nevis is a pretty great deal.

i would have to imagine there are properties that would be much better than FS Exuma. if it opened in 2003, and these problems showed up within 2 years > http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthrea...61#post4733261 that says a lot.. note the poster carlyle was happy with their previous FS Punta Mita stay.

Ritz Carlton Cancun has mixed reviews (especially outside of peak season) and is more like what you describe (as not what you want)
to Cancun/ Riviera Maya. Talk about a tourist trap

Has anyone been to the Grace Bay Club in the Turks and Caicos? It looks fabulous. I am considering this hotel or FS Great Exuma.

Don't be deceived by the look of the Nevis property....it is designed this way intentionally to blend with the local surroundings.

detailed report on FS Nevis

The sand was not the fine white sand you find elsewhere in the Caribbean, but it was decent enough. The beach is straight and lacks some of the beauty of say Grace Bay in T&C or Trunk Bay in St. John, but again, it’s quite nice. The shoreline is protected by a man-made rock jetty about 25 yards out and is therefore the ocean is very calm and at 29C, very comfortable.

The beach service was much the same as the pool service, which is to say excellent, but with the less-expensive metal framed beach loungers and beach umbrellas.
i found no reports on Grace Bay Club via search.

Since I am going with my family, my parents decided theyd possibly like to have a villa on the resort because they want to have a kitchen and two bedrooms, but still be on a resort with full amenities. Comparing FS Nevis and Great Exuma for villa prices, Nevis seems to have a better deal on a two bedroom palm grove villa with a plunge pool for $1125 per night, along with a complimentary golf cart, and $500 for provisions and spa. However, when I was reading the villa description, it said that the villa is a short stroll or golf cart ride to the main part of the resort where the beaches, pools are.

Anyone have any experience or know how far away these villas are, or the condition of these villas and if they are worth the 1100 price tag per night?

Caneel Bay seems to have cottages that are $925 per night, but I am worried that the resort may be TOO isolated and the fact that rooms do not have TV's and telephones.. thats a bit extreme!

Again, thank you very much for your time answering my questions. I just want to make sure I choose the right resort, but its so hard to find the resort that just has everything.. Four Seasons seems to solve that, but I am just not too impressed by the beach at Nevis.

2BRs >

~$1K - FS Nevis / Grace Bay Club (condo) / Regent Palms (condo)

~$2K - FS Exuma (condo style) / Little Dix Bay / Raffles Canouan?

Virtuoso/FHR upgrades might be possible at Little Dix / Raffles.

you might also consider a private rental @ FS Punta Mita, for example >

~ $1.5K > $2K for 2/3BR residence club villa

re: Nevis, unfortunately the map on their site isnt very good

Adjacent to Four Seasons Resort Nevis, Palm Grove Villas are moments from the beach and the first tee of the golf course.
The villas are a short stroll or golf-cart ride from the golf course, pools, beach, restaurants and facilities of the Resort.
vs the Mahogany Hill villas
Situated in a distinctive neighbourhood at the top of the Robert Trent Jones II golf course, Mahogany Hill Estate Homes are secluded within lush private gardens.
The homes are a 10-minute golf-cart ride from the pools, beach, restaurants and facilities of the Resort.

The Grace Bay Club seems to have a fabulous beach, much better than Nevis, but overall, the resort seems too small, and only has two small pools. The only thing that bothers me about Nevis is the beach.. it just doesn't look like the best ever in the photos. The two bedroom residence at Great Exuma sounds good, but the Palm Grove Villa w/ pool at Nevis sounds too good to pass up.. just hesitant about the beach.

The villas are located off the 1st and 18th fairways on the golf course. So you are at most a two minute cart ride and maybe a 5 minute walk from the main building depending on the villa. I would verify with the hotel where exactly the villa would be. The rooms at the Nevis resort we're remodeled in 2006. I've stayed before, during, and after the renovation. The main difference is the paint colors, new furniture, and the baths have been refurbished. I personally prefer the golf and mountain views to the oceanviews.

What are you looking for in the beach? It is large and sandy.

Thanks for the info. Regarding your question, I want the turquoise clear water that we all see in those magazine photos.. but I guess I am whining too much about that... see below:

Beach at FS Great Exuma:

Beach at FS Nevis:

Maybe I am making too big of a deal, but the beach water at Nevis just seems like any other beach.. I might as well go to San Diego! I think the beaches in the Bahamas and Turks & Caicos are much better.. but yet, you can't beat a Four Seasons resort wherever it is located.
