Luxury Hotel in Bali (Ubud)

Hello

I will be Bali for a week during April and with two friends. We were hoping to spend 2-3 nights in Ubud. I have been looking for hotels in the area and there seems to be quite a few and although they all look beautiful how many would you consider to be a true 4-5 stars.? Any recommendations on Luxury resorts in the area besides the Amanduri and the FS Sayan (Out of our price range, looking for under $400 a night)?

You may try the Royal Pita Maha (villas only). This is a very beautiful place overlooking the Ayung River.

We managed to find it well under 400 USD nett last year.

Their web site : www.royalpitamaha-bali.com

The Oberoi is a Virtuoso property on Seminyak Beach. It has rates in the range you are looking for. For less than $400...

Luxury Lanai Garden View = $261
Luxury Lanai Ocean View = $305 (I'm guessing here ... there's a typo on Vnet)
Luxury Villa Garden View = $332
Luxury Villa Ocean View = $392
Luxury Villa Garden View w/ pool = $412

The Virtuoso amenities are:
  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability (not applicable to Villa)
  • American breakfast daily for two in restaurant
  • Dinner for two at Amphitheatre Restaurant (excluding beverages)

The Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah just outside Ubud should fit the bill and the budget. I wrote a favorable review of it after a four-day stay about nine months ago. Search in this forum for MegatopLover, Chedi, and Ubud. I would recommend it highly-- a very memorable experience. It's a GHM hotel, and should be distinguished from the old Chedi near Ubud, which has been re-flagged as the Alila Ubud, I believe.

Also try Ubud Hanging Gardens (Pansea property, actually is a ways from Ubud), Uma Ubud (a Como property) and Maya Ubud.

The last property would probably be my first choice for its location and the spa (the top spa in Ubud).

indonesia is definitely a great place for villa rentals, better than Thailand right now IMHO.

dll, how does the spa at Maya compare to Amandari and Como Shambhala? my understanding was that they were the best.

Bugs

Thanks for all the responses so far! One question I did have was about bugs in Ubud, how bad is it? I mean are we going to wake up and see big bugs crawling on the mosquito net like in the expedia commerical? And speaking of mosquitos how bad are they in the Ubud? They seem to love me

RE: Bugs--at night, they will give you coils to burn that keep them away...
use them...they work. I was in Ubud for 16 days and no bites.
I didn't take any medication of any kind when I was on Bali. But this is a controversial topic.

We did not have too many problems with bugs while in Ubud last May.
I mostly saw geckos, but of course I avoided to keep doors/windows open at night.

I can tell your first hand if you pay over $100 a night for a room you are mad,you just call the hotels direct and barter. They are desperate for business out there now. I was paying $60 a night last week for a 5 star hotel, 2 people inc breakfast and tax.

Try this one for sure they will go below $100
