Of course, I appreciate that these things might be impractical in a city hotel, but then what other above-and-beyond service could you expect?

I was just about okay with the JPY 130k rate I paid pre-Covid, but the near-300k rate now is laughable (although in line with the general craziness of the past year). Hey, I guess at least it's not 500k like Kyoto! (All figures including taxes/charges)
Tokyo would like to go to the 500k range. The new Aman is about optimizing revenue generation.
Janu is also laughable at JPY 200k, 6 F&B outlets and Tokyo's only boxing ring.

I don't remember the name or exact location, but I've been to a bar in the Kabuki-cho area that had a full sized boxing ring in it, so there is/was at least one more in Tokyo.

Just looked, Janu in May is JPY 120k/night for the cheapest room. Seems good value but not sure if it's a risk staying at a hotel that's barely opened.

A 2 night minimum during peak Cherry Blossom season and more on the weekends.

I badly wanted to stay at Janu in May - got all the way to the booking confirmation page - but at the end of the day 30K Hyatt points per night at the Andaz (which has the same cash price) is too hard to pass up. I guess I'm just cheap but I'll save that $6K (across 5 nights) and enjoy some great dining + shopping instead.

Could still visit Janu and eat at one of their 6 outlets lol.

I'm surprised the MO service was bad ... I've always had great service at their properties.
The Aman is much more expensive than the Capitol Tokyu. I would never stay at the capitol now because the rates are double than what is was in 2019/20.

MO felt impersonal and like any five star hotel in the west, and so is the crowd. Doesn't feel like you're in Japan

  • Grand Hyatt Tokyo 1 King Bed, Club Access, Premium £3,385.00
According to this post, he recommends the The Capitol Hotel Tokyu, Executive house zen, The Okura Tokyo, Palace Hotel Tokyo and Grand Hyatt Tokyo as good value.
Jan 2024 update: Conrad, Okura and GH currently has the best value

Would not recommend Capitol or Executive house due to their increased rates

PH has great value in their stay 3 nights 4th night free package. I'd stay before their rehaul

That's too expensive for Tokyo. Wouldn't risk it

Is PH the Palace Hotel? I’m not getting that offer in May nor can see it on their website https://en.palacehoteltokyo.com/special-offers/

So you would recommend the Okura (£3,793.06) over the Capitol (£3,372.98)?

Go for rooms in the Heritage Wing

Tokyo has so much good food you won't be spending a lot of time in the lounge
