Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco (Tuscany)
With the Crillon in Paris opening later this year, and now Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany, Rosewood is adding to its European presence in a major way (currently Rosewood London).
Here's the press release:
Here's the press release:
Historic Tuscan resort is the first Italian property for Rosewood
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has been appointed to manage Castiglion del Bosco, the bucolic Italian resort located in Montalcino, Tuscany. Founded by Massimo Ferragamo, the resort is set within one of the oldest and best-preserved estates in Italy and is located in the heart of Val dOrcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The resort now bears the name Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco.
Castiglion del Bosco is an 800-year-old estate comprising the ruins of a castle, a medieval church, and the Borgo, a village that was once an important farming and social hub. The Borgo now forms the heart of the resort and 23 suites are housed within its buildings. The resort also offers 10 villas which have been created from restored farmhouses and feature antique furniture, artisanal pieces and modern comforts.
Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is a celebration of the beauty, landscape and rich gastronomic heritage of Tuscany, says Radha Arora, president of Rosewood. It is also the perfect illustration of Rosewoods trademark A Sense of Place philosophy. Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo have created a world-class resort that is authentic, stylish and historic. We look forward to working with them to build on their success and to invite a new audience to discover Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco.
Rosewood immediately recognised and respected that Castiglion del Bosco is deeply rooted in the Tuscan way of life, says Massimo Ferragamo, the founder of Castiglion del Bosco. Castiglion del Bosco fits perfectly within their collection of one-of-a-kind properties and their clientele of affluential explorers will have the chance to embrace and discover this very special part of the world.
Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco also offers a cooking school, a carefully curated store, an organic kitchen garden, a spa, an infinity pool and fitness centre. Guests can choose to dine at two restaurants - the more rustic Osteria La Canonica or the understated Ristorante Campo del Drago which offers classic Tuscan and Italian cooking. Castiglion del Bosco is also a historic winery and is the fifth biggest producer of Brunello di Montalcino. The estates breathtaking 18-hole golf course was designed by the legendary winner of the British Open, Tom Weiskopf. This prestigious course set within a UNESCO World Heritage Site offers an unparalleled playing experience in Italy's only private golf club.
This announcement comes as Rosewood has embarked upon an ambitious global expansion with a particular focus on Europe and Asia. Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is the third Rosewood property in Europe and follows Rosewood London, which opened in October 2013 to great acclaim and Htel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel in Paris which will reopen following a complete restoration. Rosewoods most recent addition is Rosewood Beijing, which opened its doors in October 2014. The 283-room ultra-luxury hotel, located in the Chaoyang District opposite the iconic CCTV Tower, is the first China property for Rosewood.

I think is really great news. I thought the hard product was sensational when I stayed there in summer 2011, but the management of the property seemed immature and weak -- particularly the spa, which needs a major upgrade. In Rosewood's hands, I predict this will be one of the very best resorts in Italy, as the setting, the room design, the pool, and the atmosphere are really sensational.

Castiglion del Bosco - Tuscany - Photo Preview
My wife and I spent eight days at Castiglion del Bosco (CdB) earlier this month.
I cannot understate how good our experience at the property was. Good wine, very good dining, best-in-class golf, hiking and plenty of relaxing. All augmented with very good and thoughtful service.
Though there are lots of things to see in Tuscany nearby, we only left the property once during our stay. On the way home, I asked my wife if she could have only one more trip.... Hualalai or CdB...which would it be? She couldn't answer.
I'll prepare a more fulsome report shortly, but based on a number of requests, below are some preview photos.
Probably the only knock on the property would be the spa. Still a work in progress...but the raw ingredients are there.

We reserved a Terrace Suite. It was a full suite, with 1.5 baths. This suite had more suede and leather (tastefully so) than I'd ever seen in a room previously.
(Anteroom outside of bathroom and walk-in closet. Wall is covered in leather.)
Terrace
Sunset from our room
Leather minibar (drinks, including beer, were gratis)

Great pictures - thanks for sharing them. It looks lovely. Although I do have to say that terrace looks somewhat underutilized. How great would it have been to have a nice plunge pool there?
Very curious to hear your impressions of the place. We almost went this past May, but didn't because we thought it might be too soon after the transition.
