I have meetings likely equally on both sides of the river...so either area will work for me.

We loved the Peninsula Shanghai as I mentioned, but we also checked out the Waldorf Astoria on the same side, as well as the RC and PH in the Pudong. We like clean sensibilities with great service, so we preferred the PH (more masculine in design) to the RC (more feminine in design), and we definitely preferred the Pen to the WA (which was overly formal to us). Obviously, you have your own sensibilities, so you have to go with whichever makes most sense to you. But I doubt you can go wrong at any of these. :-)

After having loved the Upper House in Hong Kong more than the Peninsula, FS, MOs, and IC there, however, I wonder if the Puli is also worthy for your consideration in Shanghai if you really like modern design. We regret not having checked out the Puli...or the Opposite House in Beijing.

I have a couple of nights at a Suite at the Imperial in Vienna this week. Very different from my usual type of place, but the Park Hyatt reviews on here didn't appear to justify the price.

Regardless of the merits of the PH, I think you're making a good decision.

Over years it was my "dream-hotel" and number one on my to-do list. I stayed in 2006. Over all a stunning hotel, but my suite wasn`t renovated. Hope you have a great stay and enjoy Imperial-cake!!!

Our "Ebola-Bubonic Plague" trip begins in a week:

InterContinental OR Tambo Johannesburg
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge, Rwanda (gorilla trekking)
Carlton Antananarivo, Madagascar
Anjajavy L'Hotel, Madagascar
Dock House, Cape Town, South Africa (1st return since 2010 visit)
La Residence, Franschhoek, South Africa (1st return and site of our 2010 wedding)

Returning on Emirates F CPT-DXB-LAX (for just $3200 per person OW!), first time ever purchasing international F (always use miles).

Haha, no need for face masks since we'll be nearly 5000 km from the Ebola zone even in Rwanda, and we've got antibiotics to treat Plague in the very unlikely event that we get exposed. Nothing like a little excitement while traveling. (And we had the Iceland volcanic eruption to deal with the last time we went to Africa for our 2010 wedding. Mother Nature loves to provide challenges for us when visiting Africa, it seems.)

We're about to head off to the St. Regis Kauai for a few weeks....
