Am I nuts to consider a United SDC to LH codeshares with a 50-minute layover at FRA? I'd be scheduled to arrive from LAX at 11:30 AM at gate Z62, departing for CDG at 12:20 PM from A36. I'm on a US passport with a checked bag.
LH could hopefully get me to Paris on the next flight, which lands at 5:45 PM, but that would only get me to Paris twenty minutes earlier than my current Swiss itinerary while costing me 3 hours in Los Angeles.
Recent history has the incoming flight arriving very near its scheduled time and being late more often than it's early.
Is there any chance I'd make this connection? The last time I had a connection at FRA, my family and I ended up spending the night there. It wasn't a great experience.

I had a legal 45 minute JNB-FRA-WAW which I doubted I would make and did not One advantage you would have is that you arrive "clean" so no security.
if your flight is one ticket I would personally risk it knowing LH would need to rebook me. If separate tickets I would not.
If the inbound is on time you will make it. 15 minutes delay I doubt you would make it. anything between that would vary depending where in FRA you were departing from and how far you needed to run.

A related question for those familiar with FRA.
I'm flying into FRA from LHR on a Monday in early May, arriving about 13:00. I'll be taking a ICE train to Heidelberg. How long should I expect passport control/customs and luggage getting to take?
Thanks!

Hello all and thank you for this informative thread!
I am travelling OSL-FRA-YYZ this week, with my flight from OSL arriving at 12:10 and the flight to YYZ departing at 13:25 -- 75 minutes CT (both LH flights). I am assuming I will not have to clear security, but will go through passport control (Norwegian citizen and Canadian Permanent Resident)? Does this sound tight? The flight from OSL seems to have a fair amount of delays, so I wonder if it would be worth it to pay for a seat at the front of the plane as this is a long-haul connection. Any opionions on or experiences with this transfer welcome, I usually go through LHR or KEF and have little experience with FRA.

You are correct about security and passport control in FRA. Your flight from OSL usually arrives at an A gate or A bus gate, and the YYZ flight departs from a B gate. When you arrive in A following the signs for B gates should take you to an elevator between gates A15 and A17. Go down the elevator, walk through the tunnel, go up another elevator at the end, turn right and go through passport control into non-Schengen B departures.
Im not sure if its worth paying for a seat near the front but it may be a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Thank you, good point -- I should have checked the Star Alliance flights later in the day! I'm not too worried now that I see the AC flight direct to Pearson.

The best map of FRA is available via Lufthansa app. Here is a screenshot of the exit from the elevator in B (marked with a red circle on the left). Passport control opposite Duty Free & Travel Value shop has e-pass gates which you should be able to use with your Norwegian passport, and staffed gates for Schengen/EU and non-EU passport holders. There are more checkpoints further on (which may not be always open) but there is usually no queue there especially if you can use e-pass gates.

Be aware with the signs going from A to B. When I transfered last week, the elevators to the tunnel were out of order. Thus, the signs were suggesting to leave A to the departure hall and then enter B (with security check) again. Knowing about the stairs i did take the tunnel to B and was there in less than 5 minutes. I guess it would have taken me at least 30 minutes if i would have taken the route that was suggested by FRA.

Check to fly ORD-FRA-HAM. It is usually the same price as ORD-FRA and Lufthi would be responsible to take you to HAM if it's in a single ticket.

Yes, you should definitely fly to HAM
