The FCL is nice but I'm not sure if it's worth for the hassle of having to clear transfer security in B to get there. (But don't get me going about having to re-clear security after arriving from the UK!)

Is B transfer security a mess? What sort of hassle is it likely to be? Maybe will revisit the idea of the FCL if it will be painful to reclear, especially since we'll already have been pained once exiting LHR!

The worst thing is there is no priority lane for premium class and status passengers. The only priority lanes are for passengers within 30 minutes of departure and for families with young children.

My LHR flight ended up changing arrival gates to C2 so B security turned out to be the best option. No lines but one of the lanes was marked for F and J class! Though you weren't kidding when you said security was thorough.

Thanks for the update. Where was the lane for premium class passengers? I didn't see any when I was there a few weeks ago. I assume this was the security checkpoint on the upper level at the top of the stairs going down to the FCL to the right and a passage to other gates to the left which takes you passed McD on the right and escalators on the left.

Reminds me of the time I was clearing C security a few years back, and there were two clearly marked lines, one for Y and one for C/F. However, the separation was not being enforced, and when English-speaking-pax were asking about the C/F line, the annoyed checker was just saying/yelling: "It GIVE it NO MORE" (ie, 'gibt's nicht mehr').

Shortcut from Z up to Skyline train?
Is the unmarked, semi-secret elevator by Z17 or so a way up to the Skytrain? I didn't give it a shot - but that would be a very nice shortcut over looping ALLLLLLLLLL the way around and up like I did (which is at least a 1/4 mile walk it seems). I seem to remember taking an elevator up from A last year, but it was definitely marked...nothing in Z.
(BTW, I walked the length of both Z piers (damn you Z69 arrival gate!!!), and am in the MLL in B now...C to come later. SEN/MLL lounge review awaits!)

However I did notice something about the elavators by A15. There are 3 pairs of elevators. Those on the left for B (through the tunnel), those in the middle for Z (via passport control) and those on the right used to be for C,D,E (at least that's what the sign above the doors said). When I was there earlier this week I noticed that the signs above the righthand pair had gone and passengers for C,D,E were directed to the Skyline train platform via one-way automatic doors.
So how did you get from Z69 to the MLL? BTW Pier A+ is 780m long, so you have walked more than 1/4 mile.

As I was in Z killing time the other day I should have gone to check. At around 2pm Z pier was practically empty.

In Z, right by the connection between the two piers, there are two elevators that are unmarked...somebody needs to try them to see what the deal is! Right by those elevators *is* the exit for passport control (maybe coming up from A?) So maybe if you go in these secret Z elevators, you can only go up?
So I ended up "following the signs"...you loop all the way back around, go up an escalator, walk some more, and are then at the top level around the "open glass dome" thing. Walk a bit more, and you're at another escalator to go to the Skytrain. So it's at least 10 minutes of walking that could be cut out with a simple elevator ride.
Time to walk another mile to C16 soon

Yeah it's dead today. Z was a ghost town. I went from Z69 to the SEN lounge (... isn't there a moving walkway TO the main connecting area for the 2nd half of Z+?), then tried to find the quick way to the Skyline and walked all the way down to the end of the original Z pier (and nothing down there of course) Quite a lot of walking!

I know exactly where you ended up as I was there on Monday. I think the problem is you were in a departure area (level 3 where the non-Schengen SEN lounge is located). Because US arrivals can now deplane on the departure level (unlike arrivals from other countries who have to deplane on the arrival level above) you are behind security and it's easier if you are connecting to a Schengen destination from A.
In order to go to other departure areas such as B and C from the departure area Z, it looks like you have to take a circuitous route to end up on the arrival level.
Did you have to go through security before or after the Skyline train? Please report also whether you had to go through security between B and C.

Think you hit the nail on the head. No security to get on the Skyline train...just lots of walking. There was a random "official" security person from the airport sitting there just watching me, but they didn't do anything.
I definitely had to go through security to get into B - and as the exit from B looks like it drops you past the other side of said security, I'm almost positive I'll have to go through security at C too (I did a year ago).

Is the "non-clean" arrival level one level up from Z? Or is it below A? This place always confuses me.

Although you didn't have to clear security to get on the Skyline train, you still had to go through security in B. How can you become "unsafe" or "unclean" while riding the Skyline train? I'll write separately about one of the most bizarre transfer experiences in FRA.

Am now in the C SEN lounge...I truly feel bad for anyone who has to connect from Z69 to C16 (as I did) if they have a tight connection (wait, that was me a year ago ), are elderly, don't walk so well, etc. It's just an insane amount of walking, well over a mile. Maybe 2KM.
Note: it was a 10 minute powerwalk (probably 13-15 for most sane folks) from the B SEN lounge until I got halfway through C and hit my FIRST moving walkway. Bad design. Just a couple more minutes from there up to C security. At least my gate isn't C5, the SQ FRA-JFK flight left from there in 2011 IIRC...middle of nowhere, and no lounges close by w/o a 10 minute walk and going through security.
To top it off, FRAport detained me at C security for a few minutes to run a "special scan" on my incredibly suspicious looking Monster travel power strip. That was fun.
