I absolutely agree that catering on LO leaves a lot to be desired. I just don't think LH is any better - on LH I usually end up hungry, unlike on LO which serves edible food. If we were comparing LO to OS, that would be different (though OS still has an issue of not giving you a choice of meals even on longer routes such as ARN).

The meals are tiny, AMS gets a cold meal, BRU gets a hot one. Looking on FR24 today, the BRU flight was 5 mins shorter than AMS 🤡.
Helga doesn’t have an “ambient” Zabka breakfast of a stale roll, pot of long-life hummus and a Kaczynski sausage from Sky Bar. Put it this way, LOT’s offer pre-dates the time when Helga was pouring you a beer and handing you a sarnie in Economy. What about the drinks in Y on AMS? Any observations AlicorporateUK? |

The only edible food on LOT is the salmon tartare (but then, I do roughly 100 flights a year with LOT, and the chances of getting it served are at par with experiencing a day without rain in the country that employs me, so to speak). Rest, apart from the (again, rare, these days) salmon fillet you get served on e.g. LHR, is rubbish.

I thought the consensus was the hot meals on LH are good? If we are comparing like for like.
Is the LOT ambient C breakfast Europe's worst? Considering it's as it should be, not some mistake in catering. Is there anything more crap being dished up to luxury pax in European skies? |

I’d still say KLM’s is worse. At least LOT have the decency to serve theirs on a tray with proper crockery and provide a tablecloth. The above “box of wonders” was handed to me on a flight from Budapest to Amsterdam in Summer 2022. Remember that that’s comparable in length to BUD-LHR, where BA would offer three options (two hot and one cold). Particularly depressing are the words “Wooden Cutlery”, printed upon the packaging as if this detail were supposed to impress. No wonder Lufthansa get away with what they do when this is the disgraceful alternative. |
We will have to let the community decide but to me that is decidedly better than the bread thing, long-life Hummus pot and a fruit pouch?
KLM have been crap for as long as I can remember. When BArb had G&T and sarnies in Y, and AF had meal trays on some routes in Y, KL was still crap in J. Just like their lounges, terrible now, terrible then. Now it’s all weird that they have free drinks and sarnies in Y and the rest have nothing, and all of BArb’s lounges are not even the better than T2 LHR with her Where’s Wally curry’s etc. A few weeks ago someone sent me the post of the chefs mixing up the wrong slop to go with the salmon in the CCR, instead of whatever, they put the shepherds pie mince 🤣. Btw, in 2022 and 2023 Basia was doing the wooden cutlery in C as well, I posted about it, #destinationEco. |
LX is so much better than LH. Simpler & tastier. Don't know why it is s hard to have decent s/h J catering - I usually skip it unless for some reason I had no time to grab something in the lounge.

Any morning flight in C on LH is basically catering-free for me because even the idea of eating a sausage or bacon for breakfast makes my stomach sick, and actually eating them would incur some additional cleaning costs for Lufthansa. There should be a choice of either continental or hot (British?) breakfast. But if it's supposed to only be one option, then choosing continental as that option makes 100% sense for an airline based in Poland. I can imagine that uptake of a hot breakfast would be extremely low on AM departures from Poland (but the situation may be very different in the opposite direction). |
You are, again, making a lot of generalizations based on your personal opinions.

Well, the taste is subjective in its nature, I'm not disputing that some people may like Heimat. I just said I don't. The only generalisation I've made is that people on the continent generally prefer to eat continental breakfast. If someone disagrees with my conclusion, that's fine. Everything else I posted is an openly personal opinion :)

Basia will be delighted to hear there’s a fan of her ambient “continental” brekkie though.
