Agreed. Don’t be fooled by the presentation; these were really good.

I had this same meal on FRA-MAN and I agree it was better than normal - I enjoyed it. There was a warm mearball in there. Hmm. Maybe my criteria for joy have now deteriorated.

I also applaud the warm bread.

This is now five passengers with that meal.

I do not want to burst your Bubble but that is a Cold Meal & the Meatball should not be warm :D

The meatball (rissole?) was the highlight for me ! Mmmmm.

Fair enough! It seems like a mirage-like effect has set in where I’m subjectively co-creating the meal with them (and paying for it).

I also just had the meatball on FRA-BLL yesterday.

It was decent, however not my favourite meal ever, but this likely comes down to personal taste.

Hallo Oliver,
Dein LH Quality Team.
It seems they changed a bit in Nov 23 and will change again in June 24. Q2/25 will see a larger change.

Let's hope larger change does not mean "pay extra for your individual choice".

Take away the desert and replace it with a chocolate?

LH J cont catering is a total embarrassment, i lost count of how many times they told me ‘ we know & it will be improved ‘ :D

The problem is that the continental competition is even worse. British Airways, Finnair and Iberia all offer solid J products, but all three have hubs on the peripheries of Europe, so I suppose there’s little incentive for Lufthansa to change a product which, even in its current miserable form, beats LOT, Air France and KLM.

I strongly disagree that LH J food beats LO, but besides that you're 100% on point. LH's business model is all about having the best network and essentially making sure that pax have no other option than to fly with them. That allows them to sell abysmal product at ridiculous prices. Why would they change it, unless they have to?

At least EC finally caught up and stopped further expansion of the monopoly with the ITA deal, but I'm afraid it's too late to fix the problem.

You know I’m not a hater of Basia but I do agree that simply on substance the LO meals in a number of cases are poor and sometimes embarrassingly small and so repetitive. There was nothing wrong with the dishes and glasses so if they spent the money on that (though I doubt, probably a sponsorship deal like LUZ, BZG) that was a mistake. The service is limited as well.

The range and quality of C beverages is also very limited on LO, some are absolutely awful quality.

The fares are getting higher and some of the plusgrades are getting crazy, I guess fewer takers mean they need to go up? Why do so many flights have so few pax in C? Even on routes to “rich countries” the cabin is tiny.

You can go from a generous legroom aircraft with at seat power, a working boiler (installed but unused Espresso machines) to utter crap on the ex-AZ, or Azul or Saratov, often with no hot water. Let’s not mention the MAX as well. At least row 1 on LH has continually (comparatively) good legroom and is consistently OK.

It may be splitting hairs but given the standard of European C is so low the small differences matter.

AlicorporateUK has posted more LO C meals than anyone and I do believe he shares my views.

Obviously, the LO SH Y experience is one of the best out there in Europe, especially for status pax, as a state owned company I’d expect nothing less, the trial reintro of alcohol on 5 routes is a testament to that. Keeping the standard high in the pandemic shamed dozens and dozens of European, Asian and American carriers and I will always be grateful.

The problem with LOT is that you need to look for the positives, they don’t jump out at you.

I absolutely agree that catering on LO leaves a lot to be desired. I just don't think LH is any better - on LH I usually end up hungry, unlike on LO which serves edible food. If we were comparing LO to OS, that would be different (though OS still has an issue of not giving you a choice of meals even on longer routes such as ARN).

And then Swiss arrive with their 2 meal hot options on EU flights. Plus decent chocolate and cheese:)
