Considering they wouldnt receive all of them at once, but first as direct replacements for the regional fleet and leaving some room for growth it seems like a reasonable number. Id expect a mix of a220-100s and -300s. It really is a great plane and would be a huge upgrade comfort-wise. Love the idea of LOT simplifying the fleet

Wouldnt be at all surprised to see some a320neo/a321neos in the future to replace the 737s (though I admit I would not expect any news about this for a while)

A220s are significantly larger than E-jets. Particularly the 300s will also fill the 737 shoes from the bottom.

No chance, LO just bought a big batch of B737 MAX and has been a loyal Boeing customer since decades. These deals are also indirectly tied to defense contracts... the only reason why Airbus is getting a foot in the door is that Boeing has no product in the regional segment.

I'm not sure I'd call it "big". They accepted 5 deliveries and cancelled the remaining 7 that were on the books (along with 2 789 cancellations). Obviously they are not happy with Boeing, although their history certainly points to a Boeing order if they decide to go with any replacements of that size. And as you mention the tie in with defense contracts could also be a big factor.

Anyway that was just pure speculation on my part- the only routes that I can think of that even warrant a bigger aircraft than an a220-300 would probably be LHR, CDG and maybe TLV or MAD (in the summer) at this point. I'm positive the 738's and MAX's are more than enough for their needs right now. And the A220's could probably right size the offering on the thinner routes that are currently flown by 737's

If memory serves there is actually a significant disagreement about MAX compensation for the period these aircraft were grounded. There is a chance it will have to be solved on the court basis.

At least for now LOT is not planning to take the remaining MAX'es and Dreamliners.

Well Boeing discontinued the 717. Like the A220, the coach seating in the 717 was fantastic.

The 717 was an upgraded DC-9. That plane was not gonna be competitive today, whatever you do to it.

Welll... add some GTF engines, some MCAS software, sky interior... you know the usual lipstick on ancient airframes...

What do you mean? They are still in operation - nearly all of them.
