Welcome to FT Travelman64!

Glad to hear that your bid was accepted. The original fare was very low?

Thanks,

How are people telling how many seats are available in each class (beyond 9), and/or by how many seats a booking class is oversold?

I've got a bid in for €500 per person for my wife and I for an upcoming VIE-JFK flight, and FlightStats is showing J8 Y0 for availability. I've got a few days left to tweak my bid higher or lower depending on strategy, and it would be interesting know if perhaps Y is actually oversold and therefore OS is going to have to have to move pax from Y to J.

I think the availability is guesstimated by seats available for ASR in the seatmaps

My original fare was $736 JFK - ODS r/t in y class.

I just bid $450 US for my return flight VIE to JFK as I see that y only has a few seats left and j has 18 per expert flyer.

€520 bid (x2 passengers) for OS 87 (VIE-JFK) today was rejected. Availability was showing J4 Y4 at check-in. €599 upgrade (x2) was offered at check-in, which I accepted. Strangely, the inventory showed the same after the upgrade, so OS must be obfuscating the inventory that they're showing to the GDSes.

Smart Upgrade On Miles and More Redemption Seats

Hello All,

I understand Miles and More seats are not eligible for the smart upgrade offer. I got an Email from their help desk "The Smart Upgrade offer is available for economy class passengers holding Austrian Airlines tickets. You have a ticket of Lufthansa that’s why you cannot make a bid for business class."

I have checked the flight to MLE on Wednesday and it looks light.

Does anyone know if this "X" class seat can be upgraded at check in? Any idea how much?

Thanks so much

Highly unlikely that you will be able to upgrade a reward ticket regardless whether your ticket is LH or OS ticket stock.

You received wrong answer. The reason is not that you are on a LH ticket but because you are in X class.

Smart upgrade is something that's currently only offered on OS... It's a relative new thing where you can place a bid on an upgrade.

Airlines like EY do the same....

More info: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mile...t-upgrade.html

And more relevant for the question asked:

Is every Economy Class passenger eligible for getting a Smart Upgrade?
Yes, if you are holding an Austrian flight document (ticket number must start with 257…).

VIE-IAD 02.01 Smartbid for €410 accepted ^

Availability according to Expertflyer shortly before upgrades were processed:
J6 C6 D6 Z6 P0 Y2 B2 M1 U1 H0 G0 Q0 V0 W0 S0 T0 E0 L0 K0

Based on the number of Economy seats previously not available I would estimate that they upgraded 4-5 people

Any idea on how much to bid for a MLE-VIE? They are still selling cheap Y tickets and availability looks like:
J/4 C/3 D/1 Z/0 P/0 - Y/9 B/9 M/9 U/9 H/9 G/9 Q/7 V/5 W/3 S/0 T/0 E/0 L/0 K/0

Your chances are slim to non-existent, don't speculate on sitting up-front

Austrian is usually able to fill up premium seats to MLE and given that Y is not overbooked there is no need to bump up people
