Same Day Turn in Easter Island

Wanted to know if it is possible to take the LATAM flight to IPC and just return on the same plane without needing to pay all of the fees. I want to try the new J Suites on LA and this looks to be the most cost effective way to do it since I can get to SCL easily. Didnt know if there is a transit area at the airport or if it is a situation where I would have to go through immigration. It would all be on one ticket.

What fees are you talking about?

You will need to follow the entry procedures like everyone else and in this case, you will just hang around for a few hours in town and back to airport for the flight out instead of staying.

Thought I read you had to buy entrance to the national park. Also didnt know if I didnt have any hotel reservation or tour booked and only my confirmed return flight ( same day ) if that would deny me boarding.

You don't need to buy the park entrance.. they offer it there but there's no need. Also remember that this is a domestic flight, so there is no immigration. Having said that there is a control when you leave Santiago and again when you leave Easter Island in order to prevent people overstaying on the island. Before this control you need to fill a form where you need to declare where you'll be staying. You can find the form here: https://ingresorapanui.interior.gob.cl/# Timewise, there should be no problem to land, exit the terminal, control, security and board as long as you have your boarding pass on your phone.

I am not here to question anybody's travel arrangements, but I would definitely make time available to spend at least one or two days on this remote magical island instead of doing a direct turnaround and spending around ten hours (feeder flights to SCL not considered) in the air, especially if you have not been to Rapa Nui before.

Also, it is highly unlikely that you will see the "new" Business seats on that route. I have checked a few dates towards the end of May and all flights show the old 2-2-2 configuration.

Technically, booking such in and out in one day is feasible. I spotted prices around USD 800.00 which sounds not too bad. If you leave on LA 841 in the morning, you will roughly have 4.5 hours on the island, before taking LA 844 back to SCL in the later afternoon. Theoretically, this would even allow for a quick tour around the island, but would imply purchasing the national park entrance fee. If you would absolutely like to skip this, your choice would be staying in town which, as far as I know, would be free of charge, yet nothing exciting.

You will have to clear immigration at SCL and walk over to the domestic terminal, where you will find a separate entrance for flights to Rapa Nui. They require an entry form to be filled in and, as a tourist, you are not entitled to stay longer than 30 days (no risk in your case to exceed this, though ).

I have to agree that IPC is worth seeing...I 've been countless times and I have to say it's probably the most magical and unique place i've visited.
Regarding configurations, I'm flying SCL-LAX tomorrow on CC-BBH with the new config and the plane actually does the SCL-IPC-SCL turn before heading to LAX. In my experience LA602 usually has been flown after the plane makes an IPC turn, but not sure how reassuring that might be for future flights.

BTW.. Thinking about doing a quick post regarding the new business class
