When do FD miles expire?

First of all please pardon me for asking a basic question. I do not have the program literature with me to help me out, since that is mailed to my Indian (permanent) address.

I got a boatload of FD points during their Elite Match promotion. Due to changes in my job etc., I no longer commute and only take flights for leisure. I have not earned any FD miles since the promotion, though I have booked a few free tickets using my FD miles.

Am I at any risk of losing my miles?
In case I am in the danger of losing my miles, what remedial action do I need to take?

KLM miles do not expire. But KLM can close your account within their ToC's if you have no qualifying activity for 3 years. I'm not 100% sure what a qualifying activity is, but someone recently wrote here that it has to be a KLM or partners flight, not only 'non-flight' activity IIRC.

However I have never heard of a case where KLM had closed an acoount that hold a balance.

Thank you for your reply. Good to know that I have some more time.

Sour grapes?

I am close to 30 and will ALWAYS consider KLM in my future flight plans for the next few decades. Unfortunately, San Francisco Bay Area is not the best region to be a NW/KLM flyer, so it makes things tougher for me to reciprocate.

Sour grapes my arse. This was the dumbest scheme ever thought up and why would it not severely p*ss people like me off who have paid for you to sponge your way to what me and many others have paid a fortune for.

Why did you enroll knowing you could not fulfill the meaning of the scheme.

The word sponger springs to mind

I could be wrong, but all other programs I am part of regard award activity as "program activity".

i.e. if someone redeems an award on KLM now, account is 'active' for 3 years from that date.

Go Steve!

However, can you really hold the guy responsible for taking up an offer KLM made him? It might suck for people like you who pay heaps for your tickets while not getting much more than sh*tty service in return, but it's KLM that comes up with these kind of loony offers.

Are you saying that if another airline would match all the points you have, that you would only take up the offer if you intended to fly with them?

Just my two cents...

Sour Grapes

Are you not being presumptious to assume that I did not intend to give KLM my business or do not intend that in the future? Can't travel patterns change? Since the promotion, I have changed jobs (no travel) and I have moved to the West Coast from the East Coast of the US where the KLM/NW service is spotty. For example, when going onwards to my favorite destination from AMS, I either need to stay overnight in NYC or in AMS to make the connection since there are very few flights on the SFO-AMS segment.

Do you even know what the elite match scheme was? I was required to fly 24 milage earning segments to get the match, which I did.

Get your pompous Brit arse off the soapbox. .

Bit of a contradiction here I think. You said you got all the points.

I know very well what the scheme was as it attracted spongers like you.

I have flown many times without any problem with finding a suitable time to SFO from AMS over the last 13 years, so your statement about not being able to find the right flights hold about as much water as the Gobi dessert.

I prefer to have a pompous arse than one that is usually made from lard.

Keep on sponging and I hereby invite you to meet sometime in the AMS and make that remark to my face.

Steve Fenton - to possibly save hard working Modertator Ralf some work, I'll play the Devil's Advocate here and say I read SJC2ISP's comment to mean he has NOW moved to West Coast USA (in a job not needing much flying) FROM East Coast USA where KLM destinations are spotty - which they are, if you do not live in a few key cities.

Hardly grounds for a punch-up and name calling I'd politely suggest.

All airlines run unusual promotions at times. United right now is giving a colleague Gold (good on all Star Carriers) for ONE RT flight he is making today MEL to London.

If YOU took the same flight in reverse they'd give you Gold too. Good to end Feb 200FIVE. United flyers who have done 50,000 miles bums in seats are none too excited about it, but c'est la vie. The offer is open to all. TWO such flights and you are 1K and get a handful of Systemwide upgrades as well, good worldwide.

You are the height of self-righteousness, in spite of the fact that you can not understand English.

My post clearly mentioned that my connection onwards from AMS required an overnight stay. Either I do it in AMS or do it on the East Coast (JFK) so that the incoming flight from AMS from JFK can connect to the outbound flight. Even SFO-JFK is a 2 segment route on NW-KLM making things worse.

I could do SFO-MSP/DTW-AMS but may have to take a red-eye out of SFO or risk a tight connection in MSP/DTW.

I am sure there are better things to do in AMS than hook up with you. Jees, what has FT become in 4 years .
