I have to do a short notice trip to the US next week...Anybody know a workaround to the 14 day minimum upgrade award . The helpdesk have told me that all I can hope for is to upgrade in the lounge 'on the day.'

Mike, don't know if you're PE and called the Elite help desk. They've always given me an upgrade no matter how close to the flight day and I've NEVER called outside the 14 day period, usually within a couple of days.<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by mike turnbull:

Was turned down once when I called them from SIN, got a real Jobsworth on the line but it didn't matter as the flight was oversold anyway. If you have called try again with another agent.

I have the same experience as Nigel, have always received upgrades, especially US upgrades within a 48-hour window. If it is still not available you can upgrade at the lounge in AMS if there are available seats, even with Silver status.

Thanks one and all...shame you can't book upgrades, on line up to the 48hr limit. The other issue with online booking is that you don't get back an email response one way or the other, so unless you call, or wait days for the postman to come, you really don't know if you're wasting your time or not.I called the PE number , which of course I should have done in the first place, and all is sorted, well, not quite, I am waitlisted for the way out, but at least the red eye back is confirmed. This is one benefit of the BA site, (not for upgrades as far as I can see,) but after putting your flight requirements and dates in, it clearly shows what is available, and you can book it right there and then.

I did an upgrade in the lounge but told no way to sort out the return leg. What I did was use the elite helpdesk direct line in the lounge and the girl on the other end sorted it out there and then and faxed it to the lounge in about 5 minutes
