Mike, don't know if you're PE and called the Elite help desk. They've always given me an upgrade no matter how close to the flight day and I've NEVER called outside the 14 day period, usually within a couple of days.
Was turned down once when I called them from SIN, got a real Jobsworth on the line but it didn't matter as the flight was oversold anyway. If you have called try again with another agent.
