cancelled flight question

My daughter/husband are flying KLM today(Thursday) non-stop from SFO/AMS, continuing to VCE. They checked in online 24 hours prior to departure. Just before they left home, husband checked website and discovered that segment from AMS/VCE was cancelled.

Does KLM or NWA usually notify passengers of cancelled flights?

I'm not sure, I never experienced this ; but there are 3 flights a day between AMS and VCE, I think the transfer desk could easily reroute your family on the next flight...

When they called, they were told that they could go the next morning. They called back and the nwa elite agent said they could fly to Zurich and then catch Swiss Air to Venice, which is what they did. But they had to leave for the airport immediately as they had to have paper tickets reissued. As it was, the flight was well into the boarding process by the time the paper tickets were printed.

They have contact information in the reservations, I would think it would be a courtesy that they should extend to their passengers to let them know of cancellations--especially for their elite members--they are Platinum(nwa).

They normally do, but with the weather situation in parts of Western Europe on Friday and even today they probably do not have the capacity to call some of the ten thousand people within such a short time...

However it looks like they rerouted your family very professionally ^

I agree. This is not a "normal" cancellation, this has to do with very many passengers.

And they have more right to know about cancellations than ordinary travellers?
