Because KL 605 was canceled, but that just begs the question why that flight was axed.

I don't know. What I can tell you is that 605 was canceled pretty late in the day, which happened to be early in the morning on the day of departure. At 6.11 a.m. local time, to be precise, so just under four hours before STD.

Could be any number of reasons. Broken plane, crew shortages, lack of pax, and so on.

Waiting on the ground at MAD. Captain said AMS down to one runway due to winds so we are waiting for a later slot to take off. Said “all flights delayed” at AMS so he hopes we won’t miss connections. If it’s truly down to one runway then today will be another messy day in Amsterdam…

Three minutes after my previous post I was on board and in my seat. Cabin supervisor said incoming flights are running late, departures not so much. Sucks if you have a transfer and your incoming flight is late, but your connection is not.

I strongly suspect that all these late arrivals will cause delayed departures later on in any case.

Pushed back two minutes late, but that was they had to finish loading the bags.

Gate is right next to runway 24, with planes departing at intervals of one minute at most. We got sent to 27, though. The reciprocal 09 is the only one available for arrivals. A HV 737 just landed, now our turn.

11 minutes from gate to take-off. Sure beats the Polderbaan.

What is wrong today? Some flights to AMS cancelled, some delayed, VIE-AMS just going to runway 2 and half hour late, connection to SJO for 12 people leaving soon...

Looks like the usual morning fog causing delays.

Visibility still only 300 meters this afternoon.

Until about 8 a.m. all KL flights departed on schedule, possibly because the aircraft operating these flights were already at AMS since the previous evening. After 8 o'clock, everything went haywire. Just about every single shorthaul departure was delayed 1 - 3 hours, sometimes even longer. Plenty of cancelations, too. This morning's two dozen or so longhauls, on the other hand, all departed on schedule. That sucks for connecting pax, lots and lots must be stranded at AMS now.

This afternoon things have improved a bit. With one single exception, all shorthauls until 1 p.m. departed seriously late or were canceled. For the rest of the afternoon about a third are delayed at least 30 minutes.

Visibility has dropped to 200 meters again, and fog is predicted to persist until sometime tomorrow.

Sixteen KL flights already canceled tomorrow, and only longhauls are showing as "scheduled - on time". All other shorthauls are just listed as "scheduled".

Ugh.. flying tomorrow morning to Paris and then to AMS.

Anybody flying from AMS tomorrow morning should choose Thessaloniki as their destination.

Wondering how everything is going with you lot up there. I flew into DUS yesterday with SWISS and it was only 10 minutes late. No mention of the weather (ZRH totally calm and sunny).

It’s annoying to have a flight cancellation, but I spare a thought for the people on this mornings EasyJet service to Amsterdam from BRS. They apparently boarded on time for the 0730 departure, but I just watched the plane taxiing for takeoff at 1126. Not sure if they sat on the plane or in the boarding gate holding area for the four hours, neither case is very appealing.
