Schumer has "good vibes" about new Stewart service

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer yesterday said he has "good vibes" about the possibility of bringing JetBlue to Stewart Airport at Newburgh. Schumer has been in the lead with regard to attracting new service including Independence Air last fall.

Schumer suggested there is a good possibility of JetBlue coming to Newburgh. He said he has been lobbying JetBlue and is encouraged about the possibilities for the Hudson Valley airport. "We have had meetings; nothing is a done deal yet but we're getting good vibes," he said.

JetBlue will be taking delivery of the new breed of smaller regional jets and Schumer has been lobbying the airline to use those planes to serve markets like the Hudson Valley.

And JetBlue -- which began service at Mineta in June with a red-eye flight to New York's Kennedy International Airport -- may not be done. It is considering adding a flight from San Jose to Washington, D.C.'s Dulles International Airport this year, according to Chief Executive David Neeleman.

"That's certainly a possibility," he said, adding, "We're thrilled to be in San Jose. It's just a good market for us. We like small airports that are efficient and there are tremendous demographics down there. There's a lot of business."

Is Schumer starting to get on anyone else's nerves. Thanks to the guy for helping Jetblue to get started, but this ridiculous. Every city in New York state, he wants Jetblue to fly out of it. IMO, there are just a couple cities that are a little bit higher up then Newburgh.

You probably won't hear anything for real about the 190's until late July. My guess for its first city is Richmond or Norfolk.

With the range and relative comfort of the 190's, I think you'll see second-tier midwest cities with underserved coastal routes high on JB's list. Examples IND (please!), MCI, CMH, SDF, BNA.

I'm not sure if Jetblue is ready to take on the wrath of Southwest yet. (BNA, MCI, etc) Some smaller cities would complement their currently pretty long-haul and "holy" route map well though.

Jetblue could enter those cities if they wanted to. What they could do is start flights to JFK, where Southwest will never fly. If they are able to build a market in that city, they can expand to future cities.

Another article about the 190's. It says that Portland, Maine could be receiving service in 2006.
