In all seriousness, I cannot parse the pricing I'm seeing, it feels like every property has skyrocketed over the last 6-8 weeks or so.

IMHO -- Once Japan recently "officially" reopened to Chinese tourists hotel rates have gone crazy -- after years of minimal revenue everyone is trying to make up for it!

It's pretty staggering the costs between Tokyo and other parts of the country. Kyoto is significantly less expensive than Tokyo for my days in May and TBH, I'd rather be there.

Cherry Blossom season is brutal for Kyoto. Not at all surprised to see that. I'll probably never go at that time of the year again anyway, beautiful, but the madness is too much for me.

Based on Seigex review of the Tokyu Stay Shinjuku, I have reserved that for part of my trip in September.

The other hotels I am staying at are:

Hotel JAL City Haneda West Wing - scheduled to arrived at 22:30 into Haneda so this offered a reasonably priced hotel in good proximity to the airport.

Ibis Styles Nagoya - The B Nagoya - booked here to stay during the weekend of the F1 race. Plan is to have an extra couple of days in Nagoya before the race weekend, and return to Tokyo on the Sunday night after the race.

All in just over £1000 for 13 night’s accommodation for September.

Edited as I listed the Ibis Styles Nagoya when I had actually booked The B Nagoya - £241 WED-SUN booked through Expedia.

Gracery Asakusa has proven to be a diamond in the rough. Was able to get it for 5 nights on my upcoming trip. By no means luxurious but will do the job as I'll be out exploring most of the time.

Have you tried Mitsui Garden hotels near Yamanote stations? The few I checked have advance rates not too high above many business chains.

Wow. Thank you! I have an upcoming trip staying with them for 6 nights. Got my rate about $100/night.

mitsui garden gotanda is great and cheap. Paid 20000 for a triple with breakfest and double was much less. nice rooftop onsen also. Super hotel premier ginza also cheap and great location. 15000 for a triple no breakfest but it was just OK looking. So not much missed. Check right when booking window opens.

Gotanda is right on the Yamanote loop and an easy connection to Asakusa line, too. I'll be checking it as well as budget places around Shinagawa and Sengakuji-Ekimae.

Any thoughts on the Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi? 21500 JPY/night for Ginza seems quite reasonable, and it's directly connected to Tokyo station.

On a different note, in case anyone was wondering, all the AirBNBs I stayed in had terribly thin walls. I could hear everyone talking and walking at all times. Seems like this is common across Japanese apartments (according to people online at least). Will definitely follow this thread and book a hotel next time.

it is a good hotel. breakfast is good. It is not really in ginza but close. it is also very easy to take the discounted bus from NRT that will drop you off literally in the front of the hotel for 1300Y in about the same time as the NEX after walking through tokyo station. That rate is also pretty good.

I've stayed there a few times, love it, and that's a decent rate. You're up on a high floor so will have good views if there's a window (I can't recall if all rooms have windows, some interior ones may not). Rooms are quiet. Location can't be beat, Tokyo station is right downstairs for food and transport.

Just got back from the Mitsui Garden Gotanda and loved the facilities and locations. I stayed in a superior room and it was really, really tiny by western standards. If I came back, I'd definitely opt for a larger room, but for the ~ USD $100/night I paid, the place was an amazing deal.

nice. Yah. Our triple room was pretty tight but it seemed like a regular double with an extra bed so yah, double would be decent size for price

Is the breakfast included in the rate? Best place to make the reservation?
