The Super Hotel is known for its public baths. That’s why it costs about nine dollars more per night than comparable business hotels. American travelers never mention the public baths because they are squeamish about nudity.

Dormy Inn usually has a rooftop open-air public bath filled with citrus. You go in naked. That’s scary for squeamish Americans. Dormy also has (had?) free Ramen in the evenings and used to have free beer on tap at some locations. Very different from Toyoko Inn. All managers at Toyoko Inn are women, a reason to patronize that establishment. APA usually have decent restaurants on the ground floor. I’m beginning to wonder if you’ve actually been to these hotels more than once?

This is EXACTLY why my wife's parents stay at the Dormy inn across the street from us in Hatchobori when they visit -- the Onsen on top floor is their favorite thing in Tokyo....
Excellent, Sir. You and they are to be commended. Decent and clean hotels are easier to get in Tokyo than in New York City. Cheaper, too, for a host of reasons. |

The pricing of accommodation in Tokyo is getting unreal. I'm looking at Airbnb listings in February and am seeing prices more than 2x what I saw this past July...
|
I heard the same about Airbnb prices from a friend who is in town. I guess it's another example of post-pandemic friction as demand outstrips supply. In the early days of the pandemic, I noticed that many Airbnb owners were selling off furniture - liquidizing investments that they had made in anticipation of increased demand for accommodation in the Olympics.
As far as I can see, the prices for "weekly mansion" type places still appear reasonable - if you can meet their requirements, which may not be possible for all Airbnb customers. |

I've stayed at the B hotels before and liked them but my favorite one next to the TBS Building appears to still be closed. I've also stayed at the Prince Shinagawa which was quite nice. Also, I've stayed at the Richmond in Narita Town once which is solid for an early flight. I agree the Western Chains in Tokyo are overpriced. Btw for fun experiences in Tokyo check out Tokyo Cheapo.

We are going to try the Cerulean Tower Shibuya next week. The price was right and generally good reviews. Would have preferred Grand Hyatt or maybe even Andaz but too pricey when I need 2 rooms.

I heard someone in the lounge saying the he needed to extend his stay but he was considering moving over to the Four Seasons because it was cheaper. |
It's pretty staggering the costs between Tokyo and other parts of the country. Kyoto is significantly less expensive than Tokyo for my days in May and TBH, I'd rather be there.

The Grand Hyatt is nuts right now. I used the last of my Hyatt pts. Rates are 2x what they were during the rugby world cup in 2019 when it was basically sold out (and I thought i was getting a good deal on points then!!)
