Mitsubishi Space Jet program to be temporary suspended
Mitsubishi Heavy Industry has announced that Mitsubishi Space Jet program will be temporary suspended. The press release used the term 「凍結」(touketsu), where project has been temporary suspended or the project has been frozen, did not mention that the program has been terminated. But after temporary suspension of the development program of Mitsubishi Space Jet program many doubt the possibility of the program resuming in future.
Mitsubishi Space Jet is a twin jet aircraft design to carry 70 passengers developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industry. Initially the program was called MRJ (Mitsubishi Regional Jet), the MRJ program officially started on 2008 when Mitsubishi Heavy Industry received an order for MRJ from ANA. Original plan was first aircraft to roll out on 2011 and first aircraft will be handed over to an airline on 2013. However, program schedule adjustments and delays were announced six times officially so far. 2019 the name of the aircraft was changed to Mitsubishi Space Jet.
Currently 7 aircraft have been rolled out of an assembly line at NKM (Nagoya Airfield), former Komaki Airport which was the main airport of Nagoya with international flights before CentrAir opened at Nagoya. Currently three of those aircraft are at MWH (Grant County International Airport) at Moses Lake, WA, U.S.A. doing flight tests.
Wonder what will happen to those aircraft already out of the assembly line. Those aircraft are currently still considered "experimental" and do not have airworthiness certificate from any country.

I remember talking to a former Boeing guy who was a consultant to this project and him talking about various frustrations related to company culture.

There have been some statements from Mitsubishi Heavy Industry and other reports on the media.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industry is saying the program is not totally suspended. However, the budget for the program was cut in half May this year and the budget for the program will be further reduced next year. Mitsubishi Heavy Industry said flight tests will continue in Japan and will work toward getting airworthiness certificate in Japan.
Currently there are orders from seven airlines, but under current aviation industry in world not certain that any of seven airlines can/will take delivery of aircraft when Space Jet is finally ready. Seems like the state of current airline industry has also had part in the decision of Mitsubishi heavy Industry.

Not too surprised about this - I worked for a company and we saw MITAC requesting bids for project work.
Work that, honestly, should ideally be started at the design phase - if you are serious about producing it - but they had put off for years.

Didn't make it to the MRJ Museum (still not rebranded on the Mitsubishi site) and probably never will now.https://www.mhi.com/expertise/museum/mrj
At least I still have a bunch of JAL MRJ swag. I'm guessing I've had far more cups of coffee out of the MRJ mug than there have been flights.

Little more information on Space Jet program coming out. Looks like information came out of Q3 investors meeting.
The budget for Space Jet program for next three years will be cut to 10% of existing budget. Just this May budget for Space Jet program was cut by 50%, which means the budget for Space Jet program for next three years will be 5% of original budget. Space Jet program will continue the administrative work for airworthiness certificate Sounded like Mitsubishi has no plan to continue existing flight tests for airworthiness certificate.
