Yes, I think I know what you mean. I've seen those on NHK World - Japan's Top Inventions [EN] https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/tv/topinventions/ Would love to see more like this, too.
I didn't know Juki was a Japanese company https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/o...video/2072037/ It'd be neat to see Toray fabrics or YKK (should have visited in Toyama).

Strange Parts visited Japan last year and reverse engineered a vacuum fluorescent display [EN] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cy6o8TrDUFU
How a Nendroid is made at Good Smile [JP with EN subtitles] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFCPqLmJraI

There's a few shokunin type series/episodes for more traditional crafts (vs industrial):
Rachel & Jun [EN] shokunin https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...qUC2LUTwSWaKnx
Tokyo Lens [EN] Shamisen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0Ic64TPJVc custom desk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy4McjmsVtw
Ryoya Takashima [JP with EN subtitles] made a cello https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...oZg6pXlom-jLlO

I saw this photo from Kyoto in the photography thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/32608553-post85.html

Thought it was possible that someone else might be fascinated by the process of making her garments and broom as I am.

LapLap You might enjoy Tokyo Llama - Renovating an abandoned house in Japan [EN] https://www.youtube.com/c/TokyoLlama/videos

Some of the NHK Journeys in Japan or Tokyo Eye guests have YouTube Channels
John Daub's Only in Japan [EN] https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDJ...iutATmIIJ48HCQ & Only in Japan Go https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDs...uG3tvlyurB4K3g

I've been discovering some museum tours
Studio Ghibli Museum did a short series of tours [JP] https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCd1...Pu889Lg/videos
Tokyo National Museum [JP mostly, some EN subtitles] https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLneMG2nfDCsGPw6ZzItudpwY5se3gFOE3 which includes this interesting kimono video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4MFFKhNuWo I really hope the National Institutes for Cultural Heritage does more of this type of videos as I found it really approachable and informative. I've visited the Kyushu location more than once due to the high quality of their exhibits and English placards. So much work for such a short exhibition time, too.

Not Japan, but JP related content - Victoria & Albert Museum Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk / Curator Tour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEf0iFNTVGw

They aren't everyone's cup of tea, but the way that they approach travel resonates with me, and they are nice people: Kyde & Eric Adventure

I like Life Where I'm From's YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqw...yF33rupyF_DCsA) a lot. His videos explore many different topics (home ownerships, homlessness, knife makers, etc) and his voice is very soothing and calm to listen to.

This year, MrLapLap’s stationary interest has ripened into obsession. Happily, for me, it means I am now more likely to overhear videos about pens than about wiring and cables.

Amidst the Japanese tones, this English language voice has become a firm favourite who has full respect from my spouse. She likes ink. She likes coffee.

Has he stumbled upon https://www.buntobi.com/ for everyday stationary? They're also on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvv...axxKZHSpahVm1w

I'll enjoy watching Inky.Rocks Thanks! I'm mostly a fine or extra fine pen person. A good JP stationary item brings me so much joy. But then so does the (nearly) perfect computer cable (see, Mr. LapLap isn't the only odd one). It becomes slight territorial obsession when I keep inferior spares or freebies to lend to others so they leave my stuff alone*. Oh. I guess I like nice keyboards and good scissors/cutters, too.

* I've been handed personal pens to sign in at a few ryokans and get a little verklempt when this happens. Good pens are such a personal item and often a commemorative gift from loved ones so sharing it with a guest really drives home the omotenashi. Even if it isn't their favorite fountain pen or bought with this purpose in mind, it is still a really nice touch for pen aficionados.

ETA: Is there a Japanese youtube channel for third wave coffee? Bff & her husband love good coffee so I always pop into a few shops to bring some beans back for them. I know what types of flavors and variants they like but don't actually drink coffee so I rely on scent, reviews (they usually forward a few), and prior purchases.

Still very, very ignorant about coffee (did get to visit the London branch of Omotesando Coffee last week, coffee was good but I was wowed by the okashi). I need to learn more too.

That Buntobi channel is super nerdy - just saw their video about a pencil case maker’s anniversary fudeboko kamaboko.

MrLapLap has found a deep well of joy in Pilot’s Iroshizuku ink range which he has been receiving in exquisite packages throughout this summer through a Swedish vendor.
His favourite “value for money” purchase has been the Pelikan Twist fountain pen shine (mystic purple). Apparently Malaysia still has a strong market for fountain pens.

He’s indoctrinating LapGirl, built a desk for her this summer, and she has got used to using Blackwing pencils now. And the Posca collection is growing, and growing, and growing... The other growing tandem obsession is paper and notebooks.

MrLapLap is with you on carrying inferior items to allow to be borrowed. Never goes anywhere without decoy pens in his pocket for this purpose.
He is currently on a pre-Brexit mission to buy up German pens before the price reflects what Americans have to pay for German/European products.
