I just spent a month all over Japan and didn't see anything at reasonable prices. Ample stock of Yamazaki 12, but at 19k-29k for the full size, or laughable 2.5k for minis. Did see a fair bit of Hibiki 17, and fancier stuff, but again at eye-watering prices. Stayed at several hotels that had Hibiki 17 and Yamazaki 12 minis at 1080 yen, but none were willing to sell by the box (although it's easy to ask for a half dozen per day). At this point, I'm looking around mostly out of curiosity -- Japanese prices are outrageous, stock is depleted, and I have plenty of Y12 and Y18 at home and can occasionally get more (although prices in the US have increased, too, albeit to a relatively reasonable $100 for Y12).

Finally have some time to sit down and report some findings. I personally have a hard time paying over $100 USD for a bottle of whisky, so I stuck with the lower priced offerings (although I didn't see much of the exorbitant stuff). Here are the best prices I found searching near Kyoto station:
Nikka Miyagiko NAS 3700¥
Nikka FTB (500 mL) 2590¥
Nikka 12 6300¥
Akashi White Oak (500 mL) 1188¥ (this basic malt whisky pairs REALLY well with dark chocolate)
The Chita 3500¥ (can we just call this Japanese "bourbon"?)
Ichiro's Malt & Grain 3500¥
Hakushu NAS 6900¥
The price on the NFTB and White Oak blow my mind because they are my favorites along with the Chita (although I haven't opened the Nikka 12 yet...). But, my taste has gone the way of Bourbon where it used to be Scotch.
FYI: Kiss the stocks and price of Nikka From The Barrel goodbye: Nikka From the Barrel - Whisky Advocate
FWIW the Haneda Duty Free DID NOT get that nice delivery for the holidays - the only thing even remotely tempting was an overpriced Nikka Gold & Gold Samuri Bottle.

Next time I'm just going to PM you all the prices and you can tell me what works!
IIRC, the price ranges upthread for NFTB are considerably higher. The ~$4 difference in NTFB is easily overcome by taste Yes, I did overpay a little on the 12, but I only saw one opportunity and $14 is in the budget.

Hasegawa in Tokyo station had the Hibiki Select for Y10,800 a few weeks back, released daily, but again, not sure of current stocks.

Certain outlets of Kakuyasu (Shimokitazawa, Setagaya-dori) have it for Y4900, as well as Yamaya Shibuya (Dogenzaka). The latter has Hakushu NAS for Y4100, the cheapest I've ever seen in over a year. Mind you, in each case it was 2-4 bottles, so cant say if they are still around. Yamaya Ginza has Nikka FTB at Y2,100. Worth also checking Enoteca, in the basement of Ginza 6.

Yamazaki 12 ¥8880
Hibiki NAS ¥4100
Yamazaki 12 mini ¥780 (limit 5 per person), in contrast Ikebukuro has limit 1 pp.
I think they had Hakushu NAS as well but it wasn't on my radar.
Enjoy
