Stayed at several hotels that had Hibiki 17 and Yamazaki 12 minis at 1080 yen, but none were willing to sell by the box (although it's easy to ask for a half dozen per day). At this point, I'm looking around mostly out of curiosity -- Japanese prices are outrageous, stock is depleted, and I have plenty of Y12 and Y18 at home and can occasionally get more (although prices in the US have increased, too, albeit to a relatively reasonable $100 for Y12).
There's a few stores selling Yamazaki 12 minis for ¥780. I also scored a Hakushu 18 today for ¥23,000. So there is still plenty of good deals to be found.

Scored a bottle of Yamazaki NAS for Y5100 and a bottleof Hibiki 21 for Y45,000. I was debating on the Hibiki 21... But I guess it is a decent price compared to some of the prices out there.

ANA serves Blenders Choice in J now instead of H17

On the plus side, seems like NRT duty free got a nice delivery for the holidays, was able to pick up 6 Hibiki 21 bottles

Does Hibiki not do Japanese Harmony anymore? I can't find it anymore, used to be a very reasonable 4000-5000 JPY, I've only seen it at 9000 JPY+ and only rarely nowadays?

Yes, they do. I saw it many places for 4k yen.

Finally have some time to sit down and report some findings. I personally have a hard time paying over $100 USD for a bottle of whisky, so I stuck with the lower priced offerings (although I didn't see much of the exorbitant stuff). Here are the best prices I found searching near Kyoto station:
Nikka Miyagiko NAS 3700¥
Nikka FTB (500 mL) 2590¥
Nikka 12 6300¥
Akashi White Oak (500 mL) 1188¥ (this basic malt whisky pairs REALLY well with dark chocolate)
The Chita 3500¥ (can we just call this Japanese "bourbon"?)
Ichiro's Malt & Grain 3500¥
Hakushu NAS 6900¥

The price on the NFTB and White Oak blow my mind because they are my favorites along with the Chita (although I haven't opened the Nikka 12 yet...). But, my taste has gone the way of Bourbon where it used to be Scotch.

FYI: Kiss the stocks and price of Nikka From The Barrel goodbye: Nikka From the Barrel - Whisky Advocate

FWIW the Haneda Duty Free DID NOT get that nice delivery for the holidays - the only thing even remotely tempting was an overpriced Nikka Gold & Gold Samuri Bottle.

Both a little overpriced -- saw them for ¥2100 and ¥4900 respectively.

Next time I'm just going to PM you all the prices and you can tell me what works!

IIRC, the price ranges upthread for NFTB are considerably higher. The ~$4 difference in NTFB is easily overcome by taste Yes, I did overpay a little on the 12, but I only saw one opportunity and $14 is in the budget.

Certain outlets of Kakuyasu (Shimokitazawa, Setagaya-dori) have it for Y4900, as well as Yamaya Shibuya (Dogenzaka). The latter has Hakushu NAS for Y4100, the cheapest I've ever seen in over a year. Mind you, in each case it was 2-4 bottles, so cant say if they are still around. Yamaya Ginza has Nikka FTB at Y2,100. Worth also checking Enoteca, in the basement of Ginza 6.
Hasegawa in Tokyo station had the Hibiki Select for Y10,800 a few weeks back, released daily, but again, not sure of current stocks.

Agreed, I wouldn't feel too bad about either one, especially at the $75 price tag (albeit for a 750ml) NFTB is going for in the US now. Both great drams.

I was at Yamaza Dogenzaka this wknd, here is their current stock:

Yamazaki 12 ¥8880
Hibiki NAS ¥4100
Yamazaki 12 mini ¥780 (limit 5 per person), in contrast Ikebukuro has limit 1 pp.

I think they had Hakushu NAS as well but it wasn't on my radar.

Enjoy
