Maybe the more conservative LDP regime is trying to enforce more of the immigration laws.

It would be quite a sight to see people sleep on the floor of the Lawson in T1. I think you might be able to fit 6 people in that little stall.

But realistically, how often do the authorities contact the hotel on traveler's entry card? And for what purpose?

I do quick stopovers in NRT and KIX several times a year. Was previously instructed at NRT by immigration official to write in "Transit in NRT" with flight info and ETD time on the hotel column of the entry card. Get through immigration & custom without any problem all the time.

If I recall with KIX, there are plenty of konbini stores before and after check in. However, the issue will be making sure I have plenty of time to actually stock up. It will certainly look weird going to the register with 30-40 Georgia Coffee's. Not to mention THEN wrapping and packing them for safe transport from KIX/NRT-SAN.

Anyone who has been to NRT/KIX very recently shed any light on the stores variety please. It sadly has been a couple years since I was last at either airport
Boy, you must really love Georgia Coffee. Their Blue Mountain brand is good. But personally I have to go with Suntory Boss (any Boss kind is good).

At NRT, I know there are 2 or 3 of those Fa-So-La shops in the secure area in T1 at NRT. I'm not sure about T2, though. You should be able to be able to get the stuff there. The only true convenience store is outside the secure area, and that's Lawson. I can't believe that's the only konbini at NRT. NRT needs to have 2 Lawson's, 2 Ministops and 2 Sunkus's.

Well, they're both wrong. The form doesn't ask for "hotel" but rather "Address In Japan." That would be your hotel, if you're staying in one. For the Army guys, presumably their base has an address.

Just writing the address is no longer acceptable for non-residents according to the queue gatekeepers and I doubt they are doing this just to be ornery. Some higher up bureaucrat instructed this. If you are staying at someone's house they demand the name. Once I wrote first initial dot last name and the agent demanded the first name in full.

I think writing Yokota AFB or whatever should be acceptable for SOFA people. Japanese immigration needs to bow to the higher authority on that one.
