I'm half Milanese, my mum was born in Isola, and though it's undeniably the most international city in Italy, it works very well, and it's gotten a lot better over the past few years (see CityLife, Porta Nuova, the general dynamism of the place) it's just not a place I recommend to people coming from abroad, especially if this isn't their first visit in the country. That applies too its hinterland, though if you're a fan of Commieblocks then the Gallaratese is the place for you.

I don’t know how much I’m supposed to insist that visiting the Pinacoteca Di Brera is a massively important to us, it just doesn’t seem to be landing.
And then there’s the Duomo, every time I go in there it is miraculous to me how it is that I stay standing because I would swear that every part of myself that I can feel and sense runs down and dribbles around my feet as a puddle. Es acojonante.

My husband is currently setting up two shows at the Biennale and this will be our chance to take two young Art Students to see what he’s been working on and get an insider’s tour of the event.
