Overall a nice, but dated hotel with friendly staff, but the ra treatmnt on award is lacking.

On a side note it appears the Aussie cricket team are currently here and I saw Merv Hughes in the lobby ^

Whats lacking about an upgrade on an award, especially a pointsbreak one, you got more than your entitled to, enjoy!

Good point mate.

This is my first points redemtion and i was unsure of the exact entitlments. After the initial confusion surrounding minibar and movies the rest of the stay has so far been amazing.

I payed a small fee on this my last nihgt to be upgraded to a top floor suite and am currently in the charles sturt suite, which has a bathroom that has to be seen to be beleived. (also a shame i have no free minibar as this suite has 375ml bottles of spirits!)

My only small complaint would be that the concierges don't seem up to the usual standard. Two examples are asking for a good dumpling place, and being told to go to china town with no specific reccomendation and secondly asking what time the australia day fireworks where and being told by both staff at the desk it was 9pm, when it fact it was 10pm.

But these are small issues in an otherwise amazing stay, especially on points.

How much is it cost for upgrade to suite from superior room (on PointBreaks)?! I will be staying there in mid Feb and want to see if there is chance to upgrade to suite. I am not an Ambassador though.

Just got back from a weekend stay at the IC Adelaide.

I have to agree with you the concierge service is particularly lacking. We pulled up in our rental car, and whilst they opened the door for me, the guy went back to the concierge desk and proceeded to laugh and joke with his colleague and ignored us as we got our own luggage out of the car. On our first night we had to move rooms and while the concierge helped us my boyfriend tried to make small talk, but the guy clearly didn't want to talk and spent the time texting on his mobile and was completely unfriendly.

I have to admit I was quite shocked at the decor of the IC Adelaide. The rooms are BADLY in need of renovation. The patterned plaster on the toilet and bathroom walls goes back to the 70's. The cupboards in the rooms look like they haven't been touched since they were installed in the 70's or early 80's and are falling apart. The carpet is stained and the whole look is VERY dated. I have to admit that paying $380 per night for a King Club room that was SO dated, and was barely big enough to swing a cat, was very disappointing, so much so I won't be going back.

The Club Lounge was ok, but again disappointing mainly due to service...or lack thereof. The food for breakfast was quite poor too.

You probably need to be reading a bit more of FT, you should not be paying $380 a night unless its Clipsal weekend, Adelaide was a buy one get one free without certificate needed special at priority privilege in January and December

I am sure the hotel will get upgraded soon, it seems it was run down a bit under the Hyatt umbrella, then again its only recently that Adelaide hotel options have started to improve, the Stamford across the road is not much better.

I agree, I would be disappointed at the place at that rate. I stayed there a couple of months ago and used a BOGO, paid $240 total for 2 nights and was still fairly disappointed in the room. It was pretty small and in urgent need of a refresh. I found the club to be pretty good, although empty during the day. The breakfast was very basic but still pretty good I thought.

choices choices..

Spoke to reservations today about my upcoming booking.

It is a PB stay, they have upgraded me to a River view room with club access, i was asking about possibility of having a suite instead of club.

She said that would be fine (at the moment there is availability, obviously no guarantee of that staying the same) but pointed out that the river view rooms do have a really lovely outlook from a high floor (21-23?), and the lounge is a great benefit. Whereas the suites are on a lower floor (i think levels 5-12) with a city view.

So it is a choice between having more space, around 70sqm, but no view and no club benefits, or having the view and club but just one 35sqm room.

We will have our 2 year old daughter so more space certainly would be nice, but its not an absolute necessity..

would really appreciate opinions from those of you who have stayed there

thanks

Just came back from my IC Adelaide on PB for 3 nights. I am only a lowly PC Gold, so expectedly I was offered 1 King Bed city view and nothing more. Whilst I understand FTers mentioning the need for renovation, I actually think it is quite OK, even though it was dated. The bath room is perfectly fine and bed was comfortable. The mini-bar and room service prices is actually not that expensive, especially room service for Magnum only $4 (cost about the same as going to convenince stores 100m away).

Car parking is valet only (ie no self parking) and costs $27 per day. The concierge actually offered to pick up the luggage from my car in checking in, but I declined as I get used to carry my luggage. However, I let them pick up my luggage to the car when checking out.

My only complaint was the inconsistent newspaper offerings: I was only provided 1 night of newspaper, even though I stayed for 3 nights. I did mention it on the feedback form provided.

The pool is currently being renovated now, so I guess they will renovate the rest of the property over the next year or so.

Overall it is fantastic for PointBreaks stay, but I do understand that if people need to pay $250+ per night then they should expect a more modern decor.

I have a flexible rate at IC Adelaide for OZfest booked, was justifying use of a BOGO. But these lukewarm reports are making me rethink

There is self parking at the IC Adelaide and has been for years when it was a Hyatt, either using the convention centre car park which is on the south side of the property or the casino parking entrance on the north side.

IC Melbourne and CP Newcastle are the two properties that pretty much require valet or a long walk for 24x7 self parking.

Stayed here on a Pointbreak for two nights last weekend. After reading the comments here and browsing through TripAdvisor I wasn't expecting too much, but all things considered I was mildly positively surprised.

Good!
- Got a river-facing room with a nice view out toward the rivers, parks and North Adelaide
- Not nearly as dated as I thought from the comments here. Sure, cutting-edge it isn't, but bedding, most bathroom fittings etc definitely dated from this millennium.
- First-ever octagonal hotel room I've stayed in
- First-ever trapezoidal minibar I've seen in -- but lots of space for our own stuff too.
- Location is reasonably handy to the city center and transport.
- Free newspaper on both days

Bad!
- Internet is an extortionate A$0.55/min, and while I managed to send off my mail and disconnect in 53 sec, at checkout they claimed I'd used it twice and was charged $3 and change.
- I asked concierge to book us on 2:30 PM SkyLink shuttle, she called them and told us it to wait at the Mercure (across the road) at 3 PM. I double-checked that I need to be there at 3, 30 min after it leaves, she said yes. The shuttle never showed up (I later verified that scheduled time to be at the Mercure is 2:39!) and we had to grab a cab

All in all, great value for a Pointbreak, but I wouldn't pay $200+ a night for this.

My experience - PB x3 nights at IC Adelaide

Stayed here last month on PB x3.

On arrival: Nice greeting by staff and helped with luggage.

Got upgraded to RiverView room.

Reception helpful and knowledgable.

Very central location, directly opposite AVIS rental.

One block away from Thrifty and 10 minutes walk to Rundle Mall.

Room not very tired and looks good to me. Toilet clean and well maintained.

Kid's menu very good value for the price A$ 12 with lamb cutlet and a juice (room service).

Cons: My missed luggage from Qantas was left next to the Conceige in the lobby unattended - for an hour despite my repeated phone call to the reception asking them to inform me when the luggage arrived.

Definitely worth staying if using PB.

Booked a room months ago for upcoming stay

still no upgrade showing in the booking

most other hotels upgrade ahead of time.

Being a long time client of this hotel I really have seen no attitude change since becoming IC.

on an aside

as that Qantas offer below is booked out of the QFF website would all points still be given on staying at this rate?
