Unfortunately i am biased concerning upgrades as RA,

Both hotels might be difficult to score upgrade if

At IC David, although a big hotel,
- a lot of conferences can wreak havoc in room availability
- they do go however straight by the book as AMB upgrade cat+1

At CP TLV Beach, although surrounded by other hotels offering a lot of room inventory
- if a beach event takes place https://www.visit-tlv.co.il it could be difficult to get upgraded
- Diamond upgrade is subject to availability

-------

The pool situation is a bit trickier, better explained with visuals from google maps
Both hotels' pools do offer seaview and are in close proximity to the beach

CP TLV has an indoors/outdoors pool with slideable dome roof
- very useful if it gets colder -
However due to the pool's location, it will get perfect east & west sun
But no south sun because of the Rennaissance hotel building casting its shadow

When sun is positioned in the south, the shadow of the Rennaisance hotel falls over it,
You can expect the full sun to return when it turns west

IC David faces a similair problem with its pool

The pool will get only sun in the later morning from the south east because IC David's building casts a shade,
Later during high noon, the next door DAN Panorama hotel will casts its shade from the south on the pool but won't complete cover it.
There will be still a thin slice basking in the sun. In the afternoon full sunshine from the west will fall again on the pool.

Hope this helps you, let us know what you experienced

Great detail, thanks!

we actually prefer shade on the pool.

Is one pool more suitable for drinking laps (ie bigger)?

Happy to help,
CP has a standard rectangular shape that is better for lap swimming
IC has the form of a spade, can't remember if a net is deployed to seperate the deep section
