A new year and a new IHG promotion. Answers to some Frequently Asked Questions below:

For newcomers to IHG promotions, note that Holiday Inn Express and Holiday Inn (including Holiday Inn Resorts) are two different brand categories for these things. If your dashboard says 'stay at a Holiday Inn Express' as one of the tasks and you stay at a Holiday Inn, it will NOT credit for the Holiday Inn Express task. (and vice versa)

For a task that says 'Stay X number of times at a Holiday Inn Express' (or Holiday Inn, Intercontinental, etc.) each stay must be at a different property for it to fully credit rather than staying at the same property multiple times.

An award stay only counts toward a task that specifically requires an award stay and will not count toward other tasks and night requirements for the purposes of the promotion. (Award stays do count toward general elite qualification, but that's outside this promotion)

'Redeem points' award nights only count for the 'redeem points' task and no other tasks. (example- an award night does not count toward 'Stay X number of nights')

At IHG, points + cash stays are simply points stays where you bought some of the points at the time of the reservation. Once you finish the reservation, a points + cash stay shows as a points stay. Thus points + cash stays only count for tasks where they are specified, and not other tasks.

Doing a points + cash booking and then cancelling it does NOT trigger a 'buy points' task completion. A 'buy points' task is a points transaction that is processed through points.com

The 'pay with your IHG credit card' task has typically been very slow to post. If it does within about two weeks of completing a stay, that's relatively quick, and it will often be several weeks beyond that, depending on when your statement closing date is and how IHG's system sweep is timed.

Some offers require booking within the promotion period in addition to staying during the promotion period.

I had completed 5/6 offers that I was tasked with, didn't do the task for 2 X weekend stays.

But funny thing, I went back on and looked and now I have an extra task showing that was previously a hidden task, only visable when printing off the offers page.

This new offer is stay three times. I've already stated 20+ times so far, but only the last stay I done is showing, so it's only just came on.

Makes you wonder if something triggers the extra offers

Its not an offer for you, many offers show when printed but they are not active for you, only the ones on the screen are

I never received an email, but I'm pretty sure that my 4,000 pts Stay 2 times task was added after the fact. It's a different background colour to the rest, and completing it did not count towards the 5/6 task.

I received an email and a new target on the dashboard, stay 3 times for 6000 points, I already have 5 completed stays in the promo period. Just Tweeted IHG to ask what the deal is?

Does the 'Your Rate Bonus Points Package' count or only the regular rate?

Bonus Point Packages count for any of the tasks - I even have a task to specifically book Bonus Points Packages, and the stays towards that task also count towards the other tasks.

stay requirement

One of my offer requirements is: Stay 4 nights
Does this mean 4 consecutive nights or can it be just 4 separate nights ?

Thanks in advance !

When i select "Your Rate" the earnings total don't reflect the package. When I select the regular rate which is $3 or 4 more, the earnings are correct.

I don't think I've ever had a stay with IHG where the Estimated Earnings on the reservation actually matched what I received; often the bonus points aren't reflected (but sure enough are credited once the stay is completed), and even then, the estimation seems to be always a couple of hundred points more optimistic than what I actually receive. I've yet to detect any rhyme or reason.

Very possibly the original quote uses the actual exchange rate :-)

Saturday Stay Question

Hi all,

stayed for a weekend booked as one reservation and all posted fine.

stayed at same hotel recently on a Friday and Saturday on consecutive nights but the nights were booked separately and IHG customer care are currently having none of it that it was one stay. Obviously ridiculous and hopefully eventually will get sorted - the usual software issues have been pointed out.

We need to come up with something snappy for what IHG could stand for.....not as easy as you might think without the obvious Incompetent Hotel Group variations.

Is the promotion end date quoted in the name of this thread, 15 April, actually correct? As of today (31 March) my IHG dashboard says there are 29 days to go, which would take us to the end of April.
