EU261: Claiming Compensation Help

I have a round trip itinerary ticketed on United CLT>IAD>CDG VCE>MUC>CLT. The outbound is operated by United, the second leg is Air Dolomiti and LH. I'm outbound today and the return home is July 21st.

As I was checking into the flight today, I noticed that the VCE>MUC leg was cancelled. I did not receive an email for this cancellation. I called United and they rebooked me through EWR (on UA metal), but I land 4.5 hours later than I originally did.

Am I owed the 600/person? If so, which airline do I contact? If not, why? TIA

You always claim on the last operating airline, after the flights. Does not matter which airline/flight caused the delay.
How many days before the flight was the flight changed? More or less than 14 days?

So I would submit the claim to Air Dolomiti after the cancelled flight was supposed to land?

EDIT: I see the highlight in the quote. So I claim through UA, after I land in EWR?

I found out this morning when I was checking in. I am not sure when it was actually cancelled. I have no email from United about any delay or cancellation. But another person in my group is on the same flight, but 2 days later and was notified this morning.

UA did not cause the cancellation. Claim with the airline at fault; make sure you keep all the ticket receipts. When you claim state the < 14 day cancellation and demanding compensation based on EC reg 261. This will be a difficult one. Claim once you are home.

this is not a delay claim, I am pretty sure UA will deny the claim.

Now that I am back form this trip, how do I actually file a claim against Air Dolomiti? Is there a standard form that I use, or are they airline specific? If there is just a standard form, do I just email it to the standard customer service address and hope for the best?

No. If the flight arrived on time (more or less) and the excessive waiting time occured whilst waiting at the luggage belts, you are not under EU Reg. 261/04, i.e. no claim for comp. Just bad luck!

Yes, you should have posted in the LH forum.

I just had some issues with Air Tahiti Nui - any chance 261 applies to Tahiti as a French territory?
