Americans to get fast track access at LHR

Frankly, I think this is a bit of a slap in the face and deem this unfair. UK citizens dont get the same in the US, so why should it be only unilateral?

If you haven't heard, the UK plans on exiting the European Union. Hammond seems to think this will mitigate some of the damage.

Just use of e-passports. Is not "fast track". Nothing unusual or special for USA citizens. Many countries now use e-gates.
From the link
No one wants to hit a standstill at airport immigration—it's like being slapped in the face after a long flight. Isn't there an app for this?, you wonder. Luckily, starting next year, travelers with passports from the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or Japan will soon be able to "jump the queue" on arrival at London Heathrow, using electronic passport gates previously reserved for EU passport holders.

A completely false premise.

UK passport holders traveling on an ESTA are eligible to use APC at CBP checkpoints where available to anyone. That is pretty much all US gateway airports from the UK.

In addition the US makes Global Entry available to UK passport holders on roughly the same conditions as it makes the service available to US nationals, whilst the UK has a burdensome, expensive, and limited system for US nationals. Hard as it may seem, parity and equal treatment will mean change for the UK.

If anything, it is the UK which is isolating itself through childishness.

Now imagine being excluded from using e-gates and EU/EEA passport lines upon arrival in the EU. That's presumably one thing that might happen in a no deal scenario.

BTW The move decision was made because 1) border force is chronically overwhelmed by the sheer number of non-EU/EEA passport holders at major UK airports, and 2) It's yet another cost-cutting measure (One border force agent can either work at a single desk or work several e-gates at a time).

It’s not really news. CNN picks these things up a bit late. I personally enjoy my GE experience.

Why should it be bilateral or fair?

I don't understand reciprocity fees either (except that they are an example of government greed). Country A reduces the amount of money country B's citizens have to spend when they visit, so obviously country B needs to reduce the amount of money country A's citizens have to spend their too!

Oh, please. UK passport holders are eligible to use Automated Passport Control arriving in the USA. Your high dudgeon appears misdirected. link

Does this mean longer queues at e-gates now ? Would this mean people voluntarily go to the manual desk if the line is shorter there

One would presume that the smarter people go to the shorter line as the goal is to be processed quickly.
