Overseas Citizenship of India.

It is asort of special Indian visa that is granted to some non-Indian passport holders who are of Indian descent or origin, which lasts for life, and allows you to stay in India for as long as you like, and enter as often as you like.

It also gives you a lot of the same legal rights in India as Indian passport holders who live abroad, concerning property ownership, and money etc.

Thank you very much. I won't be eligible so it will still be a visa application every two years for me then

OT: Indian Visa for UK Passport Holder

I flying to Mumbai on New Year's Eve and need to get an Indian Visa. I notice that one of the requiements is to have '2 unused pages in my passport'.
Do these need to be facing each other or can these be 2 single pages on separate pages?

thank you

I have multiple Indian visas in my passport and must admit I have never seen this requirement before. The India visa itself takes up one full page so as long as you have one more free page anywhere I am sure you will be fine.

The Indian embassy outsourced their visa operations a while ago I believe and from the reports I have read and heard it is a much slicker operation these days. There is a thread on it somewhere in this forum, will have a search when I get a minute.

Slicker yes, but much more pedantic about the details. Heaven help your application if you get one tiny detail wrong. One of my colleagues had his rejected twice owing to tiny errors that previously would have been ignored.

I am moderator on a Goa forum and the experiences so far are mixed. A lot have had fewer problems than last year( which was a nightmare) but some are finding that visa forms are being returned for minor problems eg signature not being exactly the same as on passport. Don't leave your visa application till the last minute.

You do realise that processing Indian visas has been outsourced to either a US or Aussie company dont you.

Probably worth adding a word or two to this thread for the uninitiated.

You may get slightly thrown by questions about visiting forbidden regions or requiring referees for your visit. You just put NA in all of these boxes.

You need two blank pages in your passport, these don't need to be facing.

Also worth mentioning that the *appointment* you get means turning up at the same time as about 100 or so other people. The office is a bit like going to a UK social security office. Take a good book and the wait will whizz by.

Very useful.
